Question Column Light Wire ?

Does anybody sell that short wire that goes from the circuit board on dash and it goes to the{ prndl} indicator on column so it lights up when the lights get turned on? its about 12- 14 inches long with a small bulb on the indicator lense. thanks, DAN

Good question to ask Dan, I need one too..
I am not sure if you get one when you
order the column pointer.
I think Brothers and a few other places
carry them.

It sucks when you get out of work at midnight
like me, and you're not sure what gear
you are in....

Not actually a wire, but a fiber optic cable. (at least non-tilt is fiber optics)

I just changed out my straight drive column for a auto. What does that wire plug into? It is not a tilt. Thanks in advance.

THe light that goes to the right of the speedo (as you look at it mounted to the dash) should have a 'funny looking plug' on it if you have the proper item.
Kinda hard to explain...easier to sho. I just hope someone has a pic to show...I sure don't. (yet)

If you can't find them in any truck catalogs, check National Parts Depot for Chevelles. They had them for an ashtray light. (my '69 and '72 Chevelles have it) I think you can get the socket and a piece of fiber optic for about $10 in their catalog. (free catalog by the way) http://www.npdlink.com/

Is this the wire you are talking about (the one hanging straight "down")?

This is great! My gear indicator light just went out...again. Comes and goes. I was wondering how to replace it. Suddenly I'm not in a good mood, it doesn't look easy.

Who really needs to know what gear they are in at night anyway?

Long knight,

Your problem sounds like the end that plugs into the back of the dash isn't tight. Probably easier than you think.

LONG KNIGHT,
IT IS VERY EASY TO FIX IF YOU TRACE IT IT GOES BACK UNDER AND TO YOUR DASH AND PLUGS INTO THE CIRCUIT BOARD ON YOUR DASH. PROBABLY LOOSE OR JUST A BAD BULB. HOPE THIS INFO. HELPS , DAN :p

Dan, that wire (with column attached) is for sale if you are interested. I'll have to check and see if the wire and socket are in good condition.
