Talking The urge....

Everyone else is going one ton so I think I will join the crowd.A friend told me today his buddy is selling a mid 80s 1 ton 4x4 for $800.Its all there minus the t case.It is supposed to have a 350/4spd.But the reason I want it is for the monsterous DANA 60 under the front of the beast.Looks like the '69 should be going to K30 status.Might have to start looking at tires atleast 38s or bigger Maybe I should save the front axle for a Gen 1 blazer I would like to build,or maybe just sell the axle to get the 71 shortbed 4x4 ready for paint, who knows.....

Buy it!

The Dana alone is worth more than the asking price.

Re: The urge....

if its 85+ you could get a pretty decent chunk of the $800 back out of the bellhousing and clutch pedal setup. hydro stuff is hard to find.

the 14FF in the back should bolt right into your pre-73 truck too.

Re: The urge....

I thought they used Dana 70's in the mid 80's? Also, its gonna cost 200 per side to get the single wheel hubs on that 60.......But, yeah get it for sure.

Re: The urge....

Thats what I figured too,I didnt think it would have a 14 bolt.I dont know for sure but I *think* its not a dually so then I would get off luckier than if it was a dually.Still cant beat $800 though, either way.I havent seen the truck yet so after I see it I can get some more info,I might be able to get some pics if I ever get the camera back.Never know,I might get lucky and hand him a hundred dollar bill for the front axle and leave...lol,I wish

Re: The urge....

I found an 81 one ton for 1000. It is complete and in better shape than the truck I got now. It also is stick. I will be picking it up in a week or two. I got a neighbor who has all kinds of 1 t and /4 running geras, trannies, t-cases he gets rid of cheap, I will try to get pics up on parts board for members. Get the truck....

Re: The urge....

If the truck is a dually, word on the street is stay away. Its not cost effective to change over to a single wheel hub. If its not a dually then hell yea! Get it. I paid $800 for just a Dana 60 (no truck) that came in pieces from Alaska, and I've been told that that was a good deal. I got a quick list for ya of some additional cost to be aware of:
-Two new HD shop installed axle u-joints...$220.
-Two remanufactured loaded brake calipers...$100 w/exchange.
-Two new brake rotors...$90 pair.
-New Warn hubs...$170 pair.
Thats almost another $600 bucks. Not counting bearings and seals and god-forbid you have to get new spindles or wheel hubs.

There is a solution to the DRW hub dilemma: Hummer beadlocks.
I actually purposely switched my SRW hubs to DRW just to run these rims. Of course, my Dodge axle has external hubs, and they aren't worth anything near Chevy/newer Dodge style internal SRW hubs.

Even if it is a dually, that's still a bargain. I doubt the guy will just sell you the front axle unless he is already parting it out. I've found that people don't want to have a big heavy old truck with only two wheels sitting in their yard.
