In need of 1985 engine photos

Hey Guys (and gals),

I hope you can help me out. I had a friend rebuild the engine in my '85 Silverado. He didn't think I needed a lot of the emission stuff, and vacuum lines, and took many of those off, and plugged some lines on the Q-Jet.

Without reference I don’t exactly to start. I have the chart under the hood, but that only helps part way.

If any of you could supply me with photos and some indications of what is what in reference to the emission chart I would very grateful.

I tossed around the idea of switching the carb, but I think finding and reinstalling the lines, tees, and valves will be cheaper.

Your carb should work fine with everything disconnected, if that is your only worry. Just make sure to cap off all vacuum fittings that are not used.

I agree our 86 had it all removed and blocked off, you don't need it unless you have to pass emissions inspection.

I know our 84 has everything still on it, and I considered taking it all off, but ir runs fine now so I doubt I will.

I want to remove everything so badly... It would clean up the engine bay really well...

Also, get yourself a shop manual. They help, trust me...

Two other things, the blue wire from the choke goes back to a round housing that has a female AC style connector in side. What activates the electronic choke?

On the top front corner of the carb there are two wires coming out at a 90 degree angle. One is pluged in the other is hanging (I think it is brown). Any clue?

You lost me on the "AC style connector" part... The choke is electric, and activated by an oil pressure switch. On an '85, the switch is mounted on a tee behind the distributor. If not there, I think it will be on the side of the block near the oil filter.

That is the dual stage accellerator pump. These are found only on '85-'86 trucks. One wire should go to a temp switch on top of the thermostat housing. I think the other end plugs into the wiring harness that goes above the passenger side valve cover, but I'm not sure. It has been a while since I had that on my truck.

Aahhhh that explains a lot. The oil and water senders have been replace by Dakota Digital senders in preperation for a dash install.

Thanks for your help guys, espcially Wedgemon. That I can do, and it should take care of a couple of issues.

BTW my friend failed to hook up power to my choke so that "was" a minor problem. As it sits now it runs ok but the Q-Jet needs a bit of tweaking.

Question..... The temp switch you are refering to..... when closed is that switch then tide to ground. Im assuming when the engine gets warm that switch closes causing a short to ground??? Am i correct??

It has just one wire going to it, so I assume it just grounds it to the block. I don't know the details. I mostly just wanted it gone.
