OK If I upgrade to power discs do I have to change the booster - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Started looking for a front member today to replace the one on my 68 that has power drum brakes. Im looking for a 71-72 unit (with discs) but was wondering if it would be necessary to change the power booster and master cylinder with it. Anything else I should be concerned about.

I think you will be ok on the booster, but will need to replace the master,lines & the prop valve.....

I have the power drum booster on my truck and did the disc conversion. The brakes work AWESOME at highway speeds (high vacuum), but at slow speeds, sometimes takes a LOT of pedal. I do have a Crower 270 cam however. I plan on swapping to the disc booster eventually when I get it off of my Suburban.

You'll need a disc brake master cyl. and a proportioning valve. I like to buy new one's for reliability, their not that expensive.
I used my old power drum booster with no problems. Lines wll also be different so get everything you can from the doner truck, It will make life a lot easier.

Mine as well replace the old sacked put booster anyways while everything is apart. Because brakes are somewhat important

I found a donor vehicle (71) that's got everything complete on it so I'm going to look at it this weekend. Guy wants $50 for the stuff so I can't go wrong. He already sold the rear end out of it so I'll be hunting one of them next. 5 Lug on the front and 6 on the rear doesn't sound like a good idea.
