Re: rare barn find

The funny thing is I have been driving by this car for years and didn't know it, in a recent storm the tarp covering the front of the shed blew off and the car is now visible from the Highway which means it wont last long either bought or STOLEN! It is in central kansas about 20 miles north of I-70 If I can't come up with some cash quick I'm S.O.L. I will have to pass it along to my buddy who has a wad of bills ready to go.

Re: rare barn find

a guy i know has a great plan for situations like this.

when you find a barn find that you really want, approach the owner and get an idea of what he wants for it. If for some reason he won't sell, or you don't have the cash, offer to cover the car to "prevent damage" for the owner. go get yourself a couple tarps and cover it. when you do, leave a couple business cards on the dash, or a couple pieces of paper with your contact info.

this way if the owner thinks about it again, he has your info, OR, if the owner passes on, the family has the info of someone who is interested.

For this car, investing in a couple tarps might not be a bad idea.

good luck!

Re: rare barn find

Nice find.....hope it works out for ya......I would say that was definately an A/C car......and a good shot it was a stick judging by the pedals....the motor has the correct configuration for 68 and older so there may be a good chance it is a matching numbers car.....it should have a 12 bolt in the rear but that does not mean it is a posi as that was an option......it would definately be worth the 2k that you offered.......keep us updated.....

Re: rare barn find

So, did the SS Chevelles in 66-67-68 have the rectangular gauge cluster? Sure fire way to tell a fake SS in the 70-72 models is rectangular cluster (SS model had round gauges) ...so I can't help but wonder if this is an SS clone also.

I will admit that when it comes to Chevelles, they are absolutely my favorite sports car of all times, but I am not very savvy with them at all.

Re: rare barn find

$2000.00 is a steal.I know where there is a one owner 70-80 thousand mile big block 4 speed car.It has an aftermarket intake and carb and headers. The originals are in the trunk. The guy who owns it has turned down 10 X's what he paid for it.Of course he has an emotional attachment to it.He bought it when he was 16 with his, paper route, lawn mowing, bottle collecting money.I know the original price was $2800 or so,I've seen the paperwork.

BTW It's in a barn,too.

Re: rare barn find

Me personally I like any Chevelle up to 72. I bought a 64 SS when I was 14 and have had a few since then. Obviously, if I could find a fixer upper 70 LS6 4 speed car I would sell mine for the down payment. And, if you go back out to look at the car again see if the clutch pedal is stuck up in the dash. After looking further again and after seeing some of the other comments check where the shifter is mounted on the floor and see if there was at one time a square hole under it. The comment about the tarp is actually an excellent idea also.

Re: rare barn find

you are a bad bad bad man. Really you should go to vegas or buy a lottery ticket. Not only a sweet find but rare!!! Did I mention RARE!!! @ $10,000 it is a buy. If you have the cash make the deal. It is an investment better than the stock market.

Re: rare barn find

Do not waste a lot of time & without jumping up & down Id go back in a couple days to see whats new with it. If someone else comes along the price will skyrocket. I also agree with woodridge about the 4speed. That car is worth serious money. The 66 chevelle is more rare than the 67 but not so much with the SS models. Even if it was cloned an SS its still worth WAY more than you offered...Good luck, hope you score that one!

Oh man, what a find! Hope you get it bought! At least they didn't say "no, I'm gonna fix that up one of these days", LOL!

Re: rare barn find

well i got back in touch with the people that own the car and heres the DL. Seems there was a nasty divorce and the wife got the car but it was for the son to have when he turned 18. She would sell the car BUT the son has just recently moved back home ( now 30ish ) he thinks he wants to keep it for his son to drive who's two btw, The car is in the mothers name so I told my price and I guess someday if the son makes her mad I might get it. But at this point it doesn't look like they are gonna sell it. Oh well I knew it was to good to be true It was fun while it lasted.

Re: rare barn find

that sucks man. give it a couple weeks and stop back to drop off a business card with your name and all contact numbers. never know, but she just might change her mind in that amount of time. most women do....

Re: rare barn find

Sorry to hear that......as already stated I would check back with a card in short time just to make sure things havent changed....BTW all SS Chevelles 68 and older will start their vin with 138.....in 69 the SS became an option rather than a model so unless you have a build sheet it is tough to prove and easy to clone all SS's after 69.......JFYI
