Hey guys, just bought a 72 that was listed on this site by butzkeg. Trying to get some stuff done on it, and wondered if anyone knew of some good looking bumpers that fit the first gens? I want something like an ARB bullbar front and some type of heavy duty for the rear, but I'm having some trouble finding anything that says it fits them. Any info would be great.

Welcome to the board. Custom bumpers aren't too available. Best bet is to find a local fabicator to build what you want.

I have heard somewhere that 73-89 bumpers will fit 1st gen, however, not real tight...have to have them off the body an inch or so because the curve of grill is there.

Stay away from the Kenesaw bumpers. You will not be happy with the process, price or product.

Super nice fit and function on those bumpers, first class all the way.

$1900.00 bucks but I say they are well worth it.

I agree on the Kennesaw deal, I have one sitting in my garage that I bought. It is not on becasue the mounting bracket is not long enough to reach the mounting holes on the frame and I have not taken the time to fabricate and weld new plates on. It took a long time to get and I am not overly impressed with the way it came out

the only way I eould go with KMA bummpers is if you can have your truck on site whiel they build them they did my d-max bumpers and they had all kinds of truble but he did do every thing he could to fix them.

I put the HEAVY in HD. I designed these, and intentionally cut the body for fit. The guy than made them will do custom work in Conroe, TX, if you want.

I have a hard time beleaving a winch is gonna fit in there without cutting the bottom of the grill or moving the bumper, maybe it's just the pic and maybe a low profile winch will fit in there...

all I know is I started with my front bumper that close and I had to move it out to not cut the grill.

That is a 1999 KMA bumper, modified by me, at the time KMA took like 8weeks to deliver. After my mods the bumper has served me well.

Time to move your winch and get that approach angle back.

Plenty of room behind the bumper ya know.

My 1st bumper was a similar design to yours Burt, 2nd winch location is tucked behind the stock bumper.

vt that is a good way to mount your winch got anymore pics on how you made that set up . i am looking at doing the same thing . i dont want a battleship of a front bumper on my truck

I just bash my way thru hahahahaa

See the vertical 1/4" steel holding the bumper to the frame, thoes are my approch angle slides/skids

when I comeup to a rock thoes are the lowest points and when they hit I hit the skinny pedal and up I go

I do agree that your setup is sweet

I bet spooling the cable back in evenly is a bit of a chalange, or can you see back in there?

Okay, those skids gotta help, I see your point.

And yeh...it is but you can see the spool just enough so thing's don't bunch.
