72 Highlander Blazer

I recently purchased a 72 k5 with the Highlander option. The truck has been redone, and doesn't have the original plaid inserts. It has an orange velour with matching carpet. It has every Highlander option except tilt steering? Just wondering if maybe the carpet and inserts were original? Has anyone ever heard of another interior option. Thanks. This is my second Blazer, I owned one in the early nineties and the internet wasn't around. Good to see all of the resources now for these awesome trucks!

Re: 72 Highlander Blazer

I would guess no. You should post some pictures of the blazer, people are going to want to see it.

Re: 72 Highlander Blazer

Welcome to the board from Seattle.

There were three levels of Highlander - A, B & C. All highlanders got the "highlander" seats with the plaid inserts. I don't know about the carpet, I'd assume it was just the same carpet as other Blazers.

If you do a search for "highlander" on the board (it's in the navigation menu below the logo at the top of the page.) you should be able to find threads discussing what all was included in the 3 levels of Highlander packages.

Do post some pictures. We all love to see pictures of Blazers no matter what state they are in.

Re: 72 Highlander Blazer

Thanks for the info. The confusing thing is this truck has every option listed in all three Highlander package levels except tilt? Not sure why. I stold this thing for 2200, tucked away for several years in a garage in Kentucky. Looks like someone totally restored it at one time, but the body cancer is back! I always wanted one in orange, so this is like my holy grail! I am having difficulty getting my pics on this site so any help is appreciated!

Re: 72 Highlander Blazer

There is a FAQ on how to post pictures. The biggest problem is usually that they are too big. There is also a FAQ on how to resize them. Welcome to the board. I agree orange Blazers look awesome.

Re: 72 Highlander Blazer

I always resize my pictures with paint. To do this:

1. Start paint and click file open and search for the picture you want to resize. Click on the photo you want.
2. Click Image on the menu bar.
3. Scroll and click Stretch/Screw.
4. Resize by percentage. The percentage depends on how big the photo is.
5. Click on attributes to see the current size of the photo. The width should be 642 or smaller.
6. Click file save as and rename the photo. If you don’t save as and re-name it, it will alter the original photo.

This will get the picture to a correct size. To load it to the site:

7. Click Go Advanced where you would normally write your message for a post.
8. Click Manage attachments.
9. Click Browse and search for the photo you resized and saved.
10. Click on the photo and then click upload.

Hopefully this helps. I’m illiterate with computers but this has always worked for me.

Looks like a great starting point, and love the orange. I never find blazers this nice just sitting aroung. I looked at a 71 last weekend for $2000, and the majority of the floor wasn't even connected to the sides of the body anymore. Good luck with your project.

Re: 72 Highlander Blazer

Thanks. I live in Cincinnati Ohio and Blazers are super rare around here. I had one 18 years ago and I have only seen one or two driving around since. I accidentally came across this one on Craigslist while looking for a post of a 69 that I was interested in. It was probably more rare than the 72. It had a six cylinder, with single wall top, and no options! It was rusted badly throughout and needed a motor job as well. It sold for 1500. Just happened to scroll down when I saw this one for 2500. Got it for 2200, didn't realize it was a highlander because I had never heard of such a thing! I always wanted to have an orange one, so to find one in factory orange is like a needle in a haystack around here!

I think it is safe to say you stole it for $2200.

Re: 72 Highlander Blazer

You mentioned not having tilt but everything else. That was not uncommon back then. You could pick and choose from the option list rather than taking bundled "packages" like today.

Nice find regardless. Now get the seats recovered back to their tastefully tacky plaid glory...

Re: 72 Highlander Blazer

Looks like a nice start. I'm partial to the Orange trucks too . My old '69 Blazer made it's way to Ohio after I sold it to a local board member who sold it to another board member back that way.

A couple guys have found sources for the plaid. FuelCellGuy had a highlander optioned blazer and had the seats redone. I don't know if he is still on the board or not though.

Re: 72 Highlander Blazer

Did Highlander Blazers come with woodgrain door panels?Nothing else did since they`re based on a CustomDeluxe.I`d say not,but maybe so since Blazers only came in two trim levels (no mid-range/CustomDeluxe).
I lost my websites, but it`s SMS Auto Fabric has vintage cloth. The problem for gaining original-like covers will be the scroll work in the bullhide.

Welcome to the board, sweet find for sure.

As you've guessed already, one of the previous owners changed out the seat inserts.
Hope you can find the original orange plaid covers and keep it optioned as a Highlander.

One note though,
The 69 you mentioned wouldn't have had a single walled top from the factory, someone swapped it.
The top of the bedsides are quite different between the two. (single/double walled tops)

Re: 72 Highlander Blazer

Looks like a pretty nice K5. Look forward to seeing even more pics, both exterior and interior. Course can't leave out the engine bay!

Can you get a pic or two of the rear side panels also?

Re: 72 Highlander Blazer

I am going to take some more pics this weekend, so I'll have some of the rear panels and the glove box door. I do believe the door panels are correct, they look pretty old. In reply to the scroll pattern on the plaid inserts, I saw some pics of a blue highlander, and it looked like smooth material to me. If anyone knows give me shout! The rear panels do not have the scroll pattern, but I'm not sure the highlander had any scroll at all?

Hey, 72Highlnder, just ran across this Highlander sales brochure on eBay and thought you might be interested. Seller claims it's original and lists all options and specs.

http://cgi.ebay.com/CHEVROLET-1972-T...QQcmdZViewItem

Love your truck. Never seen an orange Highlander, only blue. Hope you plan on restoring and keeping it stock. That is one rare ride.

thanks for the link. i already have it though. it's gonna be all stock minus the fact that it has air ride. i like the lowered stance and adjustability and the look of big wheels.
