Cool TECH: Electric Fan/Stock Shroud

I didn't know where to post this, but I do most my posting in the 4x4 section so here it is: For years I've ran a straight blade 16" electric fan mounted flush to my radiator w/no shroud. It worked OK but I've always had mild overheating problems when doing multiple high RPM attempts at hill-climbs, obstacles, ect.
A new radiator and water pump didn't make it better. So I had a brain storm, I've never seen this done, I'm sure it has been done but I haven't seen it.

I mounted a new 16" S-Blade electric fan inside my stock shroud with a sheet of aluminum. It was pretty easy. A card-board template, a little trimming, some minor forming with a hammer, a bunch of machine screws/bolts and......

Kinda low-tech, but it works AWESOME!! Also it looks good enough (by accident) for a show truck IMO.

I went with this one- http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=254617
Hopefully I'll find out this summer how well it works.

Nice work on yours by the way.

Re: TECH: Electric Fan/Stock Shroud

Thanks for all the positive feedback. That Jeep fan set-up looks even easier. The only minor challenge was that my truck was not an original 4 core truck. No big deal if you're not using a shroud. I'm sure many of us have notched the bottom core support for the bigger 4 core radiator mounts.

The problem is the shroud mounts and rests on the lower core support, now w/the thicker radiator I had to fab up a couple simple supports and get creative with the lower bolt mounts. Also I screwed a 3/4 heater hose across the bottom of the shroud to fill the gap.

I will put it to the test this weekend. Almost every 4x4 club in town is getting together for a big "play-day" at the ORV park. Should provide lots of pix for the West Coast Picture Whore....
