how big of a tire in stock wheel well?

How big of a tire are you guys stuffing the the stock wells? I`ve got a 62 but I`ve got a rearend from a 1973, just haven`t put it in yet. The truck will also be lowered with a 4/6 drop. I`m not looking to build a full time racer but i do plan to have a little fun racing once and a while and I want to be sure I don`t have traction problems.

I had a 275/50/15 in there before. i think you can get a 315 in it with the right wheel offset. Just not sure what offset/backspace you would need.

Re: how big of a tire in stock wheel well?

Thanks Super. My buddy ran 295/50/15 Hoosiers in his old 62 but he had a narrower rearend than what I`m running. It`s been at least 12-13 year now but I seem to remember it hooking pretty decent with the hoosiers but the truck was only running low 13`s with a 327 back then. I was thinking about some ET streets, maybe some 28x13.5?

I know that 295/50/15 will fit with whatever is std. back spacing on a 10" wheel.....4 1/4" maybe? Just remember that the '73 rear end is 1 1/2" wider than your '62 rear end.

Yeah thats why I`m asking. i know a 295/50/15 will fit on a 15x8 wheel with about a 4.5" offset using a stock width rearend but like you said, mine is 1.5" wider which is 3/4" per side.

Re: how big of a tire in stock wheel well?

With "swap meet" season in full swing here in Pa. I'm going to be on the look out for some wheels & tires. I do plan to cut out the bed & add mini-tubs so I can run as wide a tire & wheel size as possible.

But as you know with buying at a swap meet you must be sure that what you buy is going to fit. Got "way to much" stuff laying around the workshop so I don't need to add to the pile!!!

I have seen some pretty large tire/wheel combos mentioned throughout this forum.... but being this truck
('70 C10 swb Stepside) is being setup for drag racing in addition to some limited street driving (oh yeah) I really want to maximize the wheel/tire combo for both "performance & looks"..... Thanks
