Ideas for column shift handle

Ok guys... im looking for some cool ideas to use for the column shift handle. I took off my abused original ones and want to put something cool looking on for both the blinker side and shift side.

Post some pics if you have anything. Warning... if you pic/idea is cool... i might bite it! LOL

FYI, I was thinking of rigging a huge bullet (not live round) somehow.

Re: Ideas for column shift handle

I've always thought brass knuckles would look cool for a column shifter.

Re: Ideas for column shift handle

I like old beer tap handles... Hamm's or Pabst Blue Ribbon would be cool..

How about an old ratchet handle or a wrench? That might be cool...

Re: Ideas for column shift handle

I used an old motorcycle piston, peened the wrist pin to keep it from flopping around and then tapped a hole in the connecting rod, brazed a sleeve on later after i snapped the end off the shift lever looking for 2nd gear.

Re: Ideas for column shift handle

Well, I got around to buying a dummy round at a local army surplus. Drilled a hole out the bottom and tapped the side for some screws. Then airbrushed it up with some chrome and copper paint so it looks freshened up a bit. What do you think? The stock handle is a bit long for my wheel so I will be shortening it up so there is not so much bar prior to the bullet.

I think one way to improve this vehicle (floor shift) would be to take the current shifter out and replace it with a tire iron.

The shell looks cool, but it's sharp enough to be dangerous. There is a reason OEM shifters have blunt knobs.

Re: Ideas for column shift handle

well when I cut down the bar it will be shorter and more out of the way. Besides, the bullet is not as sharp as it looks. Piercing flesh at 2000fps is easy however.

I was thinking more along the lines of what happend to Sean's truck. The bullet is sharp enough to do some damage to a temple or eyeball or even a neck if a passemger gets jostled around in a crunch. The driver will be okay, you just have the steering wheel to contend with. Most of these trucks don't have shoulder harnesses, so upper torso, neck and head are all at risk of bouncing off whatever is one or near the dashboard.

But that's just me, perhaps I worry too much about safety, maybe too much time playing captain on the ol' sailboat.

Ironic thing is, half of the time I don't even buckle my own seat belt. How dumb is that? (I know how dumb...)

Haha... Cool. Well you better buckle up buddy! Seatbelt already saved my life once! I guess there are plenty things to worry about as far as safety in my truck. For one... it still doesnt even have ANY seatbelts. Thanks for the safety pointer.

I met a guy who was almost killed by a horn ring/button on a 1950's vehicle. He was involved in a head on collision and the horn button had two chrome 6"x1" extensions out from it... well somehow during the accident one of the extensions found it's way up his nose and they had to cut the steering wheel up to get him out of the car.
