Talking Need opinions on these wheels for my '84 SWB

I am debating getting these wheels for my truck in a 20x8.5. I put my 22's on from my Tahoe but they rub in the front so I figured 20's would be good enough. Any thoughts on backspacing. I would like to go same size on front and rear to make it easy to rotate them. Also I have 3/4" spacers for the rears to even the wheelbase out. Thanks in advance for any comments.

Cant get links to show up so here is my Cardomain site.

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3012557

And here is link to the wheel (I'm thinking grey centers)

I'd go with 5.25 back spacing if you ever plan on lowering it more.

Your truck looks awesome. I agree with the grey ones. But, I also think it looked great with the rallies. Welcome to the board. Somebody on here has those on a very very nice white 79 I think.

I agree with jdurant. The rallies looked good. I'm not to keen on low profile tires on trucks now matter how low they are. I think 20's are the biggest you should go. Just my .02

Re: Need opinions on these wheels for my '84 SWB

Thanks for your comments ..Keep 'em coming.

After searching & reading all the posts on backspacing for 20X8.5 rims I am pretty confused.

I think my truck looks pretty good with the rallys. But I can only roll so long with stocks and I begin to get bored, gotta have BIGGER wheels.

I would love to have my truck look like this one attached but these wheels have to have been powdercoated.

My style would be to have the same size and backspacing at all four corners (20x8.5 Coy C-5 Grey) and have the lowest profile tire possible without stretching it. And install spacers in the rear to even the track width.

Does anyone get my ideas? Thanks in advance

Oh BTW thats my 2000 Tahoe Limited

If you call Coys they will tell you what backspace will work. I have a 1984 5/6 soon to be 5/7 and have 20x8.5 and 20x10. I got the tires and wheels from them.

Rubber bandin' it.... Are you sure you want to run a low profile tire?

Re: Need opinions on these wheels for my '84 SWB

I remember the name of the guy that I was talking about-- Dinos63. Heres a link to his sick a$$ truck. http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...highlight=dino He's got a few. I'm a fan. Anyway, there are a few guys on here using those wheels that might be able to better help you--do a search for coys. I get it with the bigger wheels--yeah, it's different; yeah, it might look better; but, will it look three thousand dollars (aprox.?$?) better? I'm not trying to talk you out of it or anything though--it'll look great. I get the low profile thing on a lowered truck with big wheels too. I just wouldn't be looking for the lowest profile I could find. I would definately want 2 or 3 inches there. Plus, ride quality really suffers the lower profile you go-from my experience.
This is what I have done in the past when ordering custom backspacing on wheels. To me, this will make or break your wheels selection. They make tools to do this, but a cardboard cut out works for me. Make a cardboard cutout the diameter of your wheel tire combo with a 5x5 bolt pattern. Then place it on the mounting pad of the rotor/drum. Make your own measurements (Don't forget to turn the steering wheel in the front and allow for tire bulge). The measurement from the mounting pad to the inside of the rim (or where you want it to be) is the backspacing measurement. That way you know for sure what your limits are. I never take anyones word for offset/backspacing/dish. Everyone will tell you something different. And the manufacturer doesn't know or care what will look best--They just know this one size will fit.

My one suggestion: You are going to spend alot on wheels and tires. Get what you want. If you really want them wider in the back or deeper dish--then do that (I personally loved the staggered look). Ditch the spacers. Rotating is over rated. My front tires last forever if I don't rotate. I try to keep a good alignment and swap them left to right though. That goes for all of my cars. Oh, and just for thought-black rallies with the chrome centers and trim rings+maybe 10" rallies in the back would look pretty fantastic on your truck. And be alot cheaper. Plus, you've already shown that you like that murdered-out look. I have a vision for your truck -ha.

The ones you already have I think look better than what you want to put on.

Re: Need opinions on these wheels for my '84 SWB

I'm very partial to 22's but I know I will have to cut the inner fenders. For some reason I think that Coys 20's wouldn't fill the wheel well and I would have to lower it more, giving me the same clearance issues with 22's.

These are 22x9.5 with 255/30/222

I'm considering 22x9 Coys with maybe 245/30/22

I vote 20x8.5's and 20x10's. I like the Coys gray center C5's.

Thanks

That truck belongs to a guy on the forum, I believe it's "kainzien" he says they are Boyd Smoothies custom painted black.

If I were to go with the 20x8.5 & 20x10 Grey Coys wouldn't I want them to have the same backspacing?

BTW thanks for replying.. I am having a hard time trying to decide on some wheels without spending a bunch of money.

The tires on the Rally's were 275/60/15, but the front rubbed so I put on 255/60/15.

I'm still not happy with those sizes, don't like the rake either. I seen a truck on here that was running 225/60/15. Even Agent Orange's 205/70/15's are tempting.

Re: Need opinions on these wheels for my '84 SWB

Roadrage sweet lookin ride..

The wheels are boyd coddington smoothies. I scuffed them up and had a buddy paint them base coat cleacoat black. The are 20x8's in the front with 5" backspacing and 20x10's with 4" backspacing(if I recall correctly). They were special ordered backsapcing (i would measure your truck for your perfect fitament). I might try to squeeze some 22x9's and 22x10's on the truck if I were you. LOL..
