New guy from Minnesota

Hey yall, I just recently embarked on my first restoration project. I bought a 1970 GMC 1/2 ton pickup, step side, with a 1969 z28 Camaro 302 and automatic transmission. I am only a college student so i don't have a lot of money but I can pretty much do anything related with cars (except for those POS rice burners) my question is, does anybody have any advice that they wish they would have known before they started going gung ho on their trucks?

Re: New guy from Minnesota

Welcome from beautiful western NC!
Advice? Take your time, plan everything ahead and expect to spend at least twice as much as you ever thought possible! Shop around, prices for parts vary widely. Vendors on this board are great to deal with. Ask LOTS of questions.

Re: New guy from Minnesota

First, welcome! Second, here's some more advice: Don't tear it down to nothing unless you really understand what that means and have the time/energy/money to put it back together on a fair schedule. I've read it and seen it: guy buys truck, guy drives truck; guy sees oil leak; guy performs frame-off, leaves it completely disassembled and gives up, parts out truck for 1/15th what he invested...if you can drive it, drive it!
