Outside air vent not closing - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have a truck with A/C, and when I select outside air on the controller (moving it to the right), the vacuum actuator opens the vent on the passenger kick panel and lets fresh air in with no problem. However, when I move the slector back to the left, the vent door remains open and will not shut. I have to reach down and push it by hand. Does my vacuum actuator need replacing? Thanks. Yes, the engine is running when I am doing this

Also, the vacuum actuator on my cowl opens the vent door on the cowl when inside air is selected, and closes the vent when outside air is selected (the opposite of the kick panel vent). This is correct I assume? Thanks again.

I would disconnect the vac can from the door and see if it works without a load. may just need to lube the piviot points on the door or have a bad vac can

It sounds like you are missing the return spring. Here is a picture of the door and valve with a spring on it that I mocked up to show how the spring attaches.

Jim- Thanks for the pic! Yes, it looks like I am missing a spring on there. I thought about that after looking at the one in the cowl. I noticed that it is spring loaded to assist with the return. I will rig one up, and should then be good to go! Thanks for the help!!!
