Picked up a Dana 70HD and pic update

My buddy had this Dana 70HD laying in his backyard and said I could have it. Took the cover off and found 3.73 gears and factory posi. I did a brake job, added a chrome diff cover, painted it and called it good.

I plan on doing a disc conversion of it. I'll make sure to make a DIY thread when I get around to it. Here are a few updated pics of how the truck sits a year after the build. Hopefully I'll be able to finish the body work soon so I can get it painted.

That's a sick rig. What color are you going to paint it?

I'm running a Mag-Hytec aluminum cover on my Dana 70. You might check them out, they add a lot more fluid capacity, have a built in dipstick and a large magnet to catch the metal floating around in the oil.

Re: Picked up a Dana 70HD and pic update

Is that an air quick coupler sitting on the axel?
Its hard to make out in the pic. Some kind of "one off" custom streemlined axel vent
Nice truck, getcolor

Yes its an coupler. It threw me when I first saw it. I thought it might have a air locker. It just a breather. Which is what I am trying to figure it out need for both axles. cleanest route for breather hoses.

It looks like to me that the D70HD is in the truck in his pictures. Or it is a D60.

Re: Picked up a Dana 70HD and pic update

yeah.. you're right. hard to tell the 60 from the 70 without a tape measure. i noticed the same air vent breather after i posted

i'm pretty sure i recall reading/hearing about alternative axle vents like your air coupler before. the set-up you have will allow you to just put the breather hose on IF and when you cross water.

doubt that truck sees much time off road tho...

I built this truck for the mud! It is not a pavement pounder. I would like to get 4.56 gears, but I don't have the money to get a new posi, carrier, and gears. I'll make sure that I post some pictures of my next outing.

that would be the shiz!
i always regret not getting pictures of my last truck when it was built and covered in mud

I'll have to check the gearing in my 70HD. If I have 411s or 456, maybe you and I can trade! I'd rather have the higher gears now that mine will be pretty dedicated to the streets.
