Another Build Thread. I am not really new to the site, but I could never post or see any pics on here. I was truly hurtin' to see some of ya'lls stuff. Anyhow, I finally read about being a "Supporter", and that did the trick, so here is my Ole Truck. You can see the progress on my Cardomain site it is in my sig. Please take a look and offer any suggestions. I am mainly looking for drop recommendations and wheel ideas. Please chime in.....

looks great so far! I'd do a 4/6 drop and 20" wheels and that thing will be looking killer!

I wish I could have had more than a few minutes from the time I pulled the old motor out and put my new motor in. I pulled it on Saturday and had to drive my truck to work on Monday.

OK Fellas, Its been a while. But we moved and the truck had to take a back seat to the settling in thing and all the honey do's at the new (to us) place. I will post some pics of the progress, and I am ALMOST ready to crank. ALMOST seems to be the family joke with the truck. So here we go.

A few more... A little bit of elbow grease in the cab and my baby will be back in action. I am excited. I will be working on it for the next three days, so I'll be posting up some more pics. I will pull it out to the driveway and get some full shots of the truck and clean it up, and hopefully get it cranked, if not fully driveable.....

That's a lot of switches there on the dash. What is all those for?

LOL, yes there is, and I just figured them all out. The first one is for the headlights, the second one is for the lights on the dash and gauges, the third one is for the windshield wipers, (which I would like to make the wiper switch on the column functional), the middle button looks like it might be for a starter switch or something, but I don't use it. the fourth one is for the electric fuel pump, and the last two will be used for the nitrous system. Yes, it is a whole lot of switches. The truck came that way when I first got it, whoever had it before me had an infatuation with switches I guess.

Well I've gotten a little further. I didn't post pics this time because it seems like the pics I have been taking all look the same except for very minor things, so I'll save you from the boredom. But here's a list of what I got accomplished the past few days.

Mounted Radiator
installed upper and lower radiator hoses
the belts
the fan clutch and fan
all vacuum lines (PCV, Brake Booster, Transmission modulator, Vacuum Advance)
Wired up electric fuel pump
Found TDC and stabbed the Dizzy
Spark Plugs and Wires
Cleaned out the fuel cell (had a little bit of nasty gas in it)
Found out what all the switches were to
Charged the battery (we have juice now)
Had driveshaft built

Things left to do:

Install the shifter
put on hood
Tidy up some under dash wires
Mount up the mufflers (temporary Flow's 3 1/2 out the headers reduced to 2 1/2, don't laugh, I had to use something to drive it to the muffler shop. Going 3" with (looking for suggestions) out the back
Crank
then put back on the grill and headlights

Hopefully I'll have it running next week. I am off next week, so looking forward to getting it on the road. I will keep you updated....

switches look cool..when youve got like 3.. but i'll probally throw some switches in mine.. cause i've always had a thing for switches...

This switch thing is gettin' funnier and funnier.....I love the ,"switches are cool, when you got like 3!" hahahaha!!! Now I am really gonna have to make use of the other two and hook up the NOS to those, I was thinking one for the solenoids and the other for the bottle blanket. At least they will all have a function......LOL!!

OK, update time!

We cranked the motor. My buddy came over this past week and we got life into the big block. We had quite a bit of trouble getting the motor to turn over with the battery I had (and it was a Sears Gold Die Hard too?) But I figured it was kinda old anyway, so I went back to Sears to buy another Die Hard Gold SUV/Truck Battery (it had the most cranking amps) Man, they hit me hard, that darn thing was 130 bucks after taxes and all....But I am hoping it does me good. Anyhow, we got it back to the house and installed it and hooked up the battery charger for good measure and the truck cranked right up, we left it running for about 25 minutes and had no major leaks or mishaps so far. It was popping a little, but we contributed it to timing being off, and it actually settled out a little as it stayed running. Now I gave it heck to get mufflers on it before I started it, but there was a miscommunication on the size of the exhaust pipe that was already on my Flowmasters, and the reducer wouldn't fit, so we had to go open header. It was just like old times. An old geezer came by and stopped and looked at us like we were Cuckoo! Then the cops passed by really slow, but didn't stop or say anything, you could obviously tell we were working on a project, with all the tools everywhere. One thing I worried about was even after it ran and we seemed to get the timing close, It was really sluggish to turn over, even with the new battery? I haven't started it again, but I am off to cover a hole in the floor board. This truck had a three speed in it when I got it, and the previous owner cut this 10" X 10" square out of the floorboard for the shifter. I have to cover it back up and put some carpet over it, but I need to cover it with something that will support mounting the new shifter on it? What size of sheet metal should I be looking for? Any ideas? They want like 30 to 40 bucks for a 12" X12" sheet of sheetmetal at the big box stores. Other than that, the truck should be ready to roll here soon, I am getting quotes on liability insurance right now and then I can take it to get the stickers on it. Hopefully this doesn't drag on too much longer, I can't wait to start driving this thing.
