Re: stroking a 350

ya your definatly wasting money there. your major decision is gonna be aluminum vs. cast iron which means expensive vs. cheaper notice i didnt say cheap. the heads are where all your power comes from so dont skimp here. if you go with aluminum just get some assembled 200cc or less 2.02 1.60 heads that have springs to match your cam lift. if you go cast iron i would pick up a set of double hump heads or another "performance" head and have them cut for the valves you want and assembled with the hardware you want, this can cost you 500 bux or even more depending on what you decide to get done, you can also have them ported or even do it yourself but thats even more. they have some "bargain" aluminum heads out there for not much more than it will cost you to do some cast iron ones, which arent the highest performace ones out there but would probably work just fine for you. hope this helps, i have been doing a ton of research lately on heads so if you have a question ive probably read about it so just ask

Re: stroking a 350

I have not used RHS but have heard a few good things about them. Dont waste your time with the double humps. By the time you spend the money to purchase, refurbish, and upgrade the double humps (old technology), you could spend just a tad more and get a new set of aftermarket performance heads that will run circles around the 30 yr old heads. Vortecs are better than the double humps, they will support up to about 430-440 hp on the right combination but that would probably be pushing it. Your HP and reliability level will greatly depend on your budget.

Re: stroking a 350

Weve run rhs on modifieds several times and there ok but for the money "cheaper" moded vortecs or brodix race rite makes good heads. Heres what I would do and did minus stroker....
361 sbc .060 bore dish hyper pistons 64 cc modded vortecs (patriot)
and with the right cam a 383 combo can see mid 400's @ crank.
Or depending on money.....
Buy short block $800-1500
get roller setup $6-1000
afr heads ?????????
Be over the 400 range...
BTW you would be surprised how well a pump gas motor will run with vortecs.

Re: stroking a 350

Those #s tell the difference between a budget minded head and a good head not saying the rhs are bad but they are midrange castings just like my patriots. The 195's outflow the 200's. But theres a big difference between the two.

Re: stroking a 350

I built a 383 using a set of RHS Vortec heads, ported a GMPP Vortec TBI intake to accept a big Holley TBI, hydraulic roller,, and out it in my 94 4x4 TOW TRUCK. Trust me it ought to be illegal to mention RHS and AFR in the same post. Not even CLOSE to comparing. And besides,, AFR is will guarentee fow numbers (on a reputable bence) to be +/- 1% of advertised. Try to get that out of RHS!! I promise you you wont, and they wont!

Like shortbead is saying I'm not trying to badmouth RHS, they make a good head for what they are and for what they are intended for. But they pale in comparison to a AFR anything.

Re: stroking a 350

The port design and port velocity of the AFR make it a better choice for the street. It will give you better drivability and power than the RHS. A smaller port with better flow equals more power where you need it for the street. The AFR 195 will out perform alot of 200+ runner heads.
