My 69 with a I6 and a th350 trans got about 10 mpg. What gears are in your truck now? I bet a 700r4 and a 3.08 rear will get pretty decent mileage. Plus with the great first gear in the 700r4, you'll still have good acceleration as well. Just a thought. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Have you considered a 4.3 from a 2002- 2004 S10 or Blazer?

Re: WTT 383 for Fuel injected I6

I know with my carb'd I6 I'm getting 9 MPG out of my 250/PG/3.73 combo. Not sure how much of a difference fuel injection would make but I would much rather have a 383 seeing as it's a lot more fun and keep the bad mileage.

I have 250/TH400 and 3.73's and I try to run it @ 2500 rpm, which is around 55 mph, and I get and average of 14-15. The motor's all stock with single exhaust also.

you also have about the worst combo of parts you could lump together.

no o/d
1rst is to over geard and second is to steep for low speed.
gears are a bit tall for the top end.
not to mention the weak hp of a stock l6.
