One More Newbee

Hello Everyone from MN.

I've been lurking here for several months now, and I finally decided to register. In these last few months I've learned more about these trucks, drivetrains, body work, electrical, restoration, etc. than I learned in the last 30 years. The people here are great...some sarcastic, some serious, some very set in there ways. It's very entertaining to follow.

I've loved these old trucks forever. I've never owned one yet...but I'm looking for a Blazer/Jimmy. As the other MN members can attest to, there aren't many around worth owning. Salt Kills!

I do have my first question that I haven't seem addressed here yet. In 69 and 70, was is possible to get a Blazer CST without PS or PB. I know of one for sale, and the options list has CST but no PS or PB. Why would GM offer a "Premium" trim package without the "Premium" options? They don't do that on current models, right?

Am I looking at this incorrectly?

Welcome to the board, Davy. I can't help you a lick on GM philosophy since it falls into the category of "truth is stranger than fiction!" I am sure someone here however has spoken to a former service rep or dealer that had an interesting opinion. These always make for interesting dialog! Good luck finding that Blazer or Jimmy!

Welcome to the board from another salt cancer state...Ohio.
As for your Q on the CST package, yes you could get one without power brakes/steering, you could even get it on an inline 3 speed truck with base guages. (My old CST/20 Longhorn had base guages)
The CST was pretty much all visual options, lots of chrome and bright trim, but in reality, that's about it.
It was enough to keep a truck from looking lake a farm tool though.

You could get any option combo you wanted. I have seen Cheyenne super's w/o p/s p/b a/c and a 3-speed on the column. You could get a CST blazer with out any other options. Good luck on your search.

Yes you could get a 69 or 70 blazer with PS and PB. The brakes will be drums though. Disk brakes weren't available until '71. A previous owner did the swap on my truck. I believe that in '69 they had closed knuckels so it is best to swap the whole front axel.

I had a '72 CST previously and it didn't have AC. I was told by someone that it couldn't be a CST if it didn't have AC. I have since learned that consistancy wasn't exactly a factory characteristic.

Welcome. As stated, CST is a trim package and had nothing to do with comfort and convenience options. Ah the days when you could tick off A/C on the option list and not have to buy the moon roof and premium sound system in order to get it!

Thanks for the answers, folks. I was concerned that this guy had changed the glove box door. CST sure seem to demand more money...even without some of the other options on it like PS, PB, AC. Have I been waisting my time trying to find a good CST?

no, i wouldn't consider it a waste, just depends on what you want. if you want p/s, p/b, a/c, then that should be what your looking for. like everyone else said, CST is just an appearance package. if you wanted to, you could always find a truck, and add the p/s and p/b. it isn't that difficult. you could even add the CST trim if you wanted. ultimately it is up to you, and your wallet. like gr8scott51 said, these things are addictive.

I agree with nightmare, hold out for what you want in the truck and you can always add the trim & emblems. If you are looking to make it perfectly stock, you I'd hold out for the CST.

If you see a truck in another area, there is a good chance that there will be a board member near by willing to take a look at it for you. It might be worth it to look at trucks out of the rust belt and pay for shipping.
