I have found 2 2004R transmissions but nothing matches up to tell me what model or year they are! Can anyone help?

Thanks

Re: Unidentified 200R4

It has the universal bell housing. I wanted to find out what year and car it came out of. That is where I am having the problem.
Thanks.

Re: Unidentified 200R4

I'm guessing what you are really trying to find out is if it came from one of the models with the higher strength ratings, Like the Monte SS, Buick GNX, Olds 442.

Buick units are identified by the BQ or BRF transmission codes. Monte Carlos used the CZF code. The Hurst Olds/4-4-2 units had a KZF or an OZ code.

Any other code (KJF, TKM) was a standard build.

Hemmings also lists the following decoding info:
1st digit: month of production (A through M, skipping the letter "I")
2nd-3rd: production day of the month
4th: shift transmission was produced (1st-3rd shift)
5th: assembly plant (T: Three Rivers, MI; J: Windsor, Canada; W: Warren, MI)
6th-7th: decade and year
8th-9th: or 8th-10th: transmission ID code
10th-13th: or 11th-14th: transmission serial number

While that info is oversimplified and the second tranny (yellow tag) seems to have some conflicting info (like NO production shift, which could result from OT weekend, or labor trouble) it still seems to be from a 1982 Oldsmobile. The first one is so far off I think it would be a good idea to look at the pan and make sure it's really a 200-4R

Re: Unidentified 200 4R

The month and year of the trans case is in a small circle on the left side of the case above the shift lever. Like 3 86
