'65 c-10 question.

Hey all,

I'm looking at a kijiji ad for a 65 c10 and thinking about getting it as my next project. Just curious what y'all think and what questions you'd be asking if you had an interest in this truck. Here's the link http://london.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehic...AdIdZ174718201

I've asked the seller for an address for a look see, just waiting for a response.

thanks.
Rob

Wow, pretty good shape. I honestly think the price is too high, body is above average for sure, but is certainly a preject, and not particularily desireable, I6 3speed small window long bed.... Maybe 1K is a good price? I hope you buy it just so that the air cleaner and heater box dont remain orange!

Re: '65 c-10 question.

I would look at the bottoms of the doors closely. They look shot on the driver's side. I see rust marks on the drain holes in the roof drip rails, so put some light pressure on the roof to make sure it's not rotting off. And, like or dislike the longbeds, they're worth less. If there's no major problems with the bed being unattached, I'd say it's worth the price.

Re: '65 c-10 question.

Condition is everything with one of these trucks, and rust is the most expensive repair issue unless you can do it all yourself. The following link has some helpful tips on what specific issues to look for in this series:

http://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/bu...uide_60_66.htm

Although the link doesn't specifically mention, the roof panel is also a potential major problem. The rain gutter is a channel for holding water, with no drain designed in. Over time if the caulking dries out, rust forms in the cavity and can become so bad the outer panel can come off. Water can also drain into the A posts, causing other rust issues. The front of the rain gutter over the windshield is frequently rusted through for the same reasons. Just things to evaluate in considering a purchase.

Re: '65 c-10 question.

Great advice guys, thanks. Still waiting for a reply from the seller. If I get a chance to see it up close I'll keep this all in mind. I'll have a look at the link markeb01 put up and I'll keep reading and learning. I have a feeling rust may be an issue but ya never know.

I wonder why he'd have the bed unattached? strange?

TwoFiftyShifter you're right the orange heater box and air-cleaner are a bit hideous it would be nice to paint them....

Re: '65 c-10 question.

The left side lower portion of the hood is rusted thru, he right door might have separated in the lower front from rust, the left door is rusted thru along the bottom, the wood has been replaced in the bed but not original bed strips, looks like just simple steel straps, best guess is the bed sills are gone completely from rust.

Good observations Rich5150, thanks.

Still no response from the seller but I'll keep all this in mind. Plus I do have my eye on a '64 as well.
You guys were a big help.
Thanks,
Rob.
