Lowering Blocks Install ?

Could someone with patience and experience talk me through this, please?
I'm getting lowering blocks, and have no experience with rear suspensions.
What do I support/jack up/etc. to install them without killing myself?
Bet it's pretty simple, but I admit my ignorance.
Thanks

Should have mentioned that it's on a 72 LWB with coils and helper springs.

The easiest way I can think of is to jack up the frame of the truck itself, and support it with jackstands. Then you can lower the trailing arms.

Scratch that, you don't need to jack up the frame, just support it.

Thanks again, Randy.
Do the rear wheels stay on the ground, and do I put a jack under the pumpkin?

yea i would prabably jack the truck up until all the spring pressure is off the trailing arms then support the frame with some jack stands..then you can just unbolt the u-bolts and lift the axle up with the jack stands and slip the lowering blocks in between. then bolt it back up and sit her down on the ground.

I would put the jack stands under the trailing arms and use the jack to push up the rear end after you get the nuts off the ubolts. I've found that they are usually rusted together ubelieveable well. It usually takes a big sledge hammer to get them apart.

I was looking at my 69 a while back and noticed the rear end is already underneath the trailing arm and figured that they must make block kits with longer U bolts. Mow much does a kit go for, and does it affect handling in negative ways?

My dad seems strongly against lowering, but I figure I need 2" all the way around to finish the truck off.
