Scott's IFS on sale again for you 47-59 guys too!!

I posted this in the other forum too, but I wanted to make sure you 47-59 guys know this sale price and info goes for you too!!!



Hey guys, just wanted to let you all know that we are going to be offering our ifs at a discount price for the next few weeks (or until I feel like not running it anymore! haha!)

Now for a lot of you guys not wanting a weld in application, this suspension is not for you. Unfortunately we do not do a bolt in unit; however with very limited welding skills this ifs can be installed on a Saturday freeing up your Sunday to watch football...

Here's a layout of the front end. Make a mental note that the only thing NOT in this picture are the brakes. As standard you will receive 11" rotors with a 5 bolt pattern and GM calipers. 6 lug ARE available at extra cost.




So why ours v. theirs? Well, here's a simple breakdown that maybe will help with those who are looking for a cheaper Mustang II alternative without knowing the true "savings" involved.

All of our front ends are built to our customers specifications. Although we have "set" dimensions we build these to, if you would like a particular ride height, track width or ride characteristic we can accommodate. For instance; you are looking for an airbag suspension, and you are looking to have the bottom of your frame exactly 2-3/4" off the ground when laid out. We can do that. Vice-versa you want a coilover suspension and you want a ride height that puts your bumper 8" off the ground, that's no problem either.

Another key ingredient is geometry. The word itself is one of those things that's put out there all the time without truly knowing what's involved. Here at Scott's we take geometry very seriously.

Your basic Mustang II front suspension is designed for X track width with X length A-arms to achieve and X amount of suspension travel with a rack that has inner pivots X inches apart on a frame rail that is X wide and so on and so forth. In it's most perfect and unmolested form the Mustang II is really not a bad front end. As a matter of fact, for a 1979 Pinto I can't think of a better front end ( catch the sarcasm, LOL).

The issue with that scenario is that no part of the equation when solving for X is ever unmolested. These trucks are different tracks, different frame rail dimension, weights, ride heights, etc... So why can't you just make longer a-arms or a different width crossmember? You would think that you could take the crossmember, make it wider, add a rack extension and your done right? Not at all really. What you inevitably end up doing is changing the entire suspension geometry and changing the way it was DESIGNED to function. In some cases it's not a problem. The change may be so slight that in reality it will go unnoticed. In the case of these older Chevy trucks, they are simply to dimensionally different for the best case scenario.

When we build you a front end you are getting a crossmember that has it a-arm pivots in a very specific location. You are getting a-arm lengths that are designed well ahead of being built to fit, but being built to function first. We may use a Mustang II spindle in a lot of cases, but calling it a Mustang II is like calling your Chevy truck a Ford truck just because they both had beds...

So what do you get with one of our front ends? Here's the breakdown.

2"x4" x 3-1/6" wall ONE PIECE crossmember
1-1/8" x 1/4" wall tubular a-arms
Billet CNC machined rod ends
Mustang II Spindles (standard or 2" drop)
Billet fully adjustable coilovers, OR Airbags and shocks
11" vented rotors
loaded GM calipers
Chrome manual rack & pinion with outer tie rod ends
Ball joints
Bearings and seals
ALL hardware
lifetime warranty on all Scott's Manufactured part

Here's what you WON'T get with our front end:

Improper geometry
an unsupported or non technical sales staff
MIG welded a-arms
A general feeling of money not well spent


As a standard retail price, our front steer ifs (pretty much any year truck applicable to this forum) retails at

$2395.00 plus $100.00 for power steering.

For the next few weeks we are doing this front end for only

$1995 WITH or without power steering.

Good question all of the power racks that are out there are remanufactured
and the one we use is a t-bird power rack.The manual rack is brand new rack
from maval.

There is a new power rack that Flaming river sells the price is way to high.
We are not a big fan of there racks they sell.
Hopefully you can understand and the power racks do come with a 2 year
warr.We have been useing this rack for about 13 years and have had great
success.

How many PSI does that T-Bird Power Rack need? My Mustang Rack uses 7-800psi. As you know the majority of Chevy truck guys use Chevy engines with GM power steering pumps that supply about 1200psi. It would be prudent of you as a vender to give your buyers a heads up to this issue as well as some suggested ways to lower the GM pump pressure.
I learned the hard way that the Ford Rack & GM Pump are NOT compatible out of the box. Mine was an easy fix (a $20 set of shims) but others using Hydroboost need a more complicated solution.

On the t-bird power racks we sell with our ifs units the psi is 1000-1100
we switched over 12 years ago to a t-bird power racks over from a mustang
power rack for the reason you brought up on the psi.We have had real good
results with the t-bird power rack.We do have shim kits as well we have sold
to people over the years to help out.We have also adjusted more caster
in our ifs and this also helps out as well.For being a easy install it is and
can be done in one day with the proper tools and patients.

There is an fitting out there to reduce the pressure from the chev pump to the mustang rack. I will not hack Justins thread but I have a solution.

Justin you guys still looking to open a shop in Tenn.?

Excellent work by the way Justin. I think your one of the only manufacturers that devulge this type of information, really helps the consumer.

Don't forget too that this front end is priced the same with either coilovers OR airbags.
