Quick Bumper question

I am finishing putting my truck back together but need a new rear bumper. None of the junk yards around me have any. Do any of you know the ceapest or best place to buy a new chrome OE style rear step bumper. I looked into LMC but they are kind of exspensive with shipping and all, they were around $350. It is going back on my '96 GMC truck. I found a FEY OE style bumper online. I don't know if this is what LMC sells or not, are these bumpers any good? I'd rather not do a roll pan due to it being a 4wd, dont really like it on a 4wd truck. I have been looking around online, but don't want to buy something from some company I have know idea who they are and be stuck with a crappy bumper.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Steve

Re: Quick Bumper question

I ran into the same problem. All the junk yard bumpers were in horrible shape. I didn't want to spend the money on new repro from lmc. Did you check craigslist? There's a guy in Maine parting out a long bed right now. Looks like the bumper is there in the pics.

I ended up going with a roll pan and a hidden hitch on my 4x4. I think it looks good IMO. Roll pan was $100. Used hidden hitch was $40. $7 for the license plate light.

Re: Quick Bumper question

I saw a 96 with a 2002 rear bumper and it looked good I am sure wishing I would have got a new style rather than the used and abused one I settlled for from junkyard

Re: Quick Bumper question

I actually thought about putting a newer style bumper on it. But instead I decided to go with original equipment. I ordered a Westin (Fey) OE replacement direct fit rear bumper complete with all the hardware, brackets, bolts, license plate lights, and impact strips, for $279, part#31000. Not too bad I guess. I actually found the part number on Westins site and googled it, and it came back that Amazon of all places had it for that price. Cheapest I could find it and I looked all day. I also got free 2 day shipping. Not a bad deal overall considering LMC wanted $350 shipped.

I am a little leary over the Westin bumpers due to the stepbars not being all that great. It supposedly has a 3 year chrome warranty. Time will tell I suppose. I will let you guys know how it fits and looks. I will have it Thursday and install it this weekend.

Thanks for the input.

Re: Quick Bumper question

I visited an aftermarket truck parts house and bought a complete rear bumper, with rub strips and all mounting parts/hardware for $200. New....in the box. Easy to carry. Although it listed for $300, I simply bought it in my employers' name and paid cash/tax. It an easy putt.

Re: Quick Bumper question

Just go down to the steel yard and buy about 6 foot of 3" pipe. Weld it on and your set.

I did a search for maine on our system and you don't have much there in the whole state. most had dents. A bunch of new aftermarkets fro $300.00 each. we sell Feys and Reflexxion bumpers and they are ggood bangs for the bucks.
Most come as complete kits with brackets thats why the price is higher. Check for a Certifit or Simco. They have about the lowest prices. Keystone to but they will be higher. Also try the auction sites for good used ones.

Re: Quick Bumper question

Reflexxion is the manufacturer of the bumper I bought for $200. Yeah, it's nice.
