1 3/4" LS swap headers

I bought an LQ4 - so it's time for an exhaust change from the standard SBC Thorley Tri-Y's...

Do 1 3/4" LS swap headers exist?

Any alternatives???

Thanks

Re: 1 3/4" LS swap headers

I've looked around for my swap and all I've seen are shorties. Even if they were available in 1 3/4 I'm not going to bother since shorties don't offer much advantage over the stock manifolds.

I really want long tubes for my swap, so for now I'm going with a pair of vette manifolds I picked up for cheap, they flow a bit better than the standard LS truck/pass car manifolds do, and I think I can make them work.

Maybe later down the road when someone comes out with a longtube swap header I'll switch over.

Re: 1 3/4" LS swap headers

I can't remember what size mine are, but I have LS1 F-body headers (stainless steel) and they fit like a glove. and are tucked up pretty tight. (Especially compared to most gen 1 sbc longtube headers)

Re: 1 3/4" LS swap headers

I bought stainless F body long tubes for mine. Off brad but seem OK to me, especially for the price. The coating could be better. They have the emissions connections I have to get rid of but that should be easy enough. I'll check the primary size tonight.

Re: 1 3/4" LS swap headers

Awesome -- I'm finding 60's camaro LS swap headers in 1 3/4 that supposedly work with mechanical clutch linkage, so if I can't get a definitive answer from you guys, I might have to roll the dice on 1st gen camaro headers.

Thanks for checking into it.

I got cold feet. Realized that build would be maxed out on day 1, and that's not how I roll . That, and it was getting very expensive for "just another small block"

Re: 1 3/4" LS swap headers

Well, the ones I bought are linked below. I looked and didn't see where he's still selling them. The pic on the auction shows 1 3/4, mine actually measure 1/16 short of that. Slip fit 3" collector, 3/8 flange and they're stainless. Maybe you could contact him if you're interested and see if he still has some. My frame isn't anywhere near stock so it's hard to compare but other than a tube on the drivers side contacting the washer on the 73-up arm they fit great. If it wasn't for the 1.25" crossmember section I did they wouldn't even touch. And, they were only 190.00!

There are 3 tubes with flanges, I plan to cut them off and weld a cap on them. I'm sure they could also be threaded and a plug screwed in. Can't beat them for the money though.

I can appreciate this. I have almost 5k in my 383, $1500 in my TH400 and another $1500 in my gear vendors overdrive. I could have built a solid 6.0/4L80 for this money and it would be fuel injected. I have a 650 Demon for carburation. It really runs, but I know I could have done better.

Well, not only that but I'm somewhat of an adventurer. This is all a whole new world to step into, and I've always been the type that wants to explore new things. So in the end, I will probably start down on power from the 383 I was planning, but there is room to grow, and as an added bonus, I'll get fuel injection, and I'll have something I can build on.

Re: 1 3/4" LS swap headers

All you need is a cam, headers and a ls6 intake on the 6.0 and you'll be making 450 hp.....easy. With the headers and the stock truck intake you sould be a solid 400 hp. I installed a set of headers on a 98 trans am that backyard88 mentioned in his post. I was amazed at the quality considering the cost. Definitely worth the money.

Re: 1 3/4" LS swap headers

If your considering going to the L92/LS3 heads...you may want to look at some with 1 7/8" primaries. The thinking for some is the intake side of those heads flow so well (330cfm @ .600 lift?) yet the exhaust side doesn't quite match the flow, so it needs a little help... like more lift, more duration, and/or a larger primary. I've been trying to get a set of the DT's made in 1 7/8" since they are built and finished well, and their swap headers are made for our (67-72) trucks...plus they don't hang down below the frame rails and tuck nicely.

Any word from DTH on the headers?
