Hi.

I just put some different tires and wheels on her, and figured I would post up some pics of my progress so far. I wish I had documented the various projects, so I could have a "build thread", but my laziness got the better of me. I recently swapped in the motor, and the interior was done awhile ago. It was the first thing I did, since the PO left me with little choice. The truck is not done, but is a little bit closer. Next up is a cowl hood and a non-rattle can paint job, along with new bumpers and some other little things, like figuring out the trans/rear gear dilemma. Enjoy and let me know what you think, as long as you like it!

Oh yeah, here are some specs: 1986 GMC Sierra Classic. Originally a V6/4 speed, then changed to a 350/350 by PO, now a 454 (.030 over, 1969 063 semi-closed oval port heads, Comp Cams XE268 cam, Eddy performer 2-O and 1411 750cfm carb). It is estimated to make around 450 horses and is currently backed up by a TH350C and a 8.5" 10 bolt with 3.08 gears. I just picked up a Powertrax no slip, but I think I might have a LSD, so if I have to change carriers I will go with 3.42 gears and that will help in my decision to build a 700R4. The wheels are Wheel Vintiques 15x8's, with their centers and GM van rings, wrapped by Cooper 295/50's. It has a DJM flip in the back and DJM 3" spindles, with half a coil cut on the stock springs. I need to cut another half to get the stance I want. Seats are out of a Chrysler Sebring convertible and the console is homemade (obviously) and houses a 10" sub. The dog hair was put their by Max, and the tailgate handle relocation kit will be going on soon, along with a K5 insert.

Thanks. Still not sure on the trans. I have what I thought was a TH400, but it is a TH375, and I have a 4WD 700R4. I was thinking 3.42 gears and a built 700R4, with the 4x4 case, or the already rebuilt TH375 and stay with the 3.08 gears. Going down two inches in tire OD has helped, but I still want a bit more gear. Turning 2500 right now on the highway, so that has to be taken into consideration. The TH350 has held up just fine so far, but I know its days are numbered. Oh yeah, she has Flowmaster 50's and 2.5" true duals with 4" tips. I am debating whether to add an H-pipe and whether to take it all the way out the back. Anyways, here are a few more pics:

Thanks. The cup holder insert came from a 99-06 GM truck, I think. It was an eBay find. I have my fuse blocks and keyless entry receiver under it, and it just lifts right out to access that stuff.

They are Autometer Phantoms. It took me almost a year to get them all, buying each one on eBay, but I ended up paying around $200 for them. They are hot glued in there. I do not recommend doing that to anyone, unless you never want to remove them. I wish I had used brackets. I will get better pics tomorrow. The speaker pods were my very first fiberglass project, hence the fact they are covered. I have an extra set of kick panels and plan on moving the speakers there, since they are constantly getting kicked when exiting or entering. My son just knocked the whole grill off today! I even thought about moving them to where the map pockets are, but I really don't want to cut up a pair of door panels. Well anyways...thanks for the kind words. The truck has come a very long way since I got it, but it wasn't ever supposed to be a project. I only bought this to get away from a payment...and then the bug bit me. There are so many nice trucks on here, and I got (stole) most of my ideas from other members. I just hope to have this old girl TOTM worthy in the next year or two.

Cool truck, I really dig the choices you have made, wheel/tire, engine, color...etc. I wish I had your heads, recently stuck a 0.30 over 454 in my 86 longbed, but I bet yours runs pretty good.

Surprised that Turbo 350 has held up, maybe the light rear end has been saving it some.

Hi. I got a little busy, but here are some more pics of the gauges and a better pic of the front end. Like I said, they are ATM Phantoms, 5" and 2 1/16" and I got the idea here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=316860 I went back and forth on whether to run the 89-91 style that I got off of the Burb I parted, or what you see. I recently sold the Burb front, just so I wouldn't continue fussing over it. I wanted a Chevy grill anyways, and will only need the lower bar, since I plan on running 88-98 lights, if I ever do it.
The air cleaner set-up is a generic 14" lid and drop base, with a Summit brand 14"x4" filter and eBay 454-460 HP stickers.
I also snuck a "behind the seats" pic in there. Nothing real fancy, I wedged a piece of 3/4" MDF in there for the amp mount, cubby, and to give the rear-firing sub something to fire against. Notice the trim piece along the top? I bent it up out of 18 ga, to match the stock trim. The 5.25 components are mounted on 3/4" MDF plates and wedged in there solid. The tweeters are mounted in the stock upper seatbelt mounting locations.
The only thing I am not a fan of, besides only being able to haul one passenger, is the cushion on the center console. I had a local guy do it, and the vinyl material is definitely not a match and didn't come out the way I wanted. Perhaps I need to get ahold of Stitch when the truck fund is replenished a bit. Just spent over $2300 on the motor, so it will be a year, or so.
Realistic plans still include a cowl hood, new bumpers and trim, dark gray metallic paint, and 17" Cragar-style 5 spokes. I would like to have bags, EFI, 6 speed, etc, but I don't play the lottery. Thanks to everyone for the nice words.

I used 5/16" bolts and bolted it to the seat frame, that runs the width of the truck, and two in the front that run through the cab floor. The console is made of 3/4" MDF and has a full-length, flat bottom.
