Help with vacuum switches.

Ok, I have two questions about two different vacuum switches on my 86 Chevy silverado 4x4 with a 700r4 transmission. The first one is the transmission converter vacuum switch that is located on the firewall. The vacuum line is rotted through and I'm going to replace it tom once I get some vacuum line. My question is, does this switch control the lockup on the 700r4 tranny or what exactly does it do? Also, what is the tip in vacuum switch for(that's what it is labeled as in my chilton manual) that is located on the passenger side of the firewall? I'm cleaning up my engine bay and getting rid of all t he emissions equipment on the truck. Thanks in advance.

Aaron
