Re: cummins or 6.0 lq4 which one is better?

Either get the early version that is only a 3 speed or get the later that has the OD, but need a computer to run it. You can get an Allison, but they are heavy as hell, no OD and have a weird mount to them. Doesn't have a tailhousing mount, uses mounts on the bell housing.

I should be getting mine a couple weeks. It's complete, still bolted to the frame, put 12 volts to it and fire it up, no tranny for $1k. P pumped too. Another P pump that needs some work for $500, and a rotary that needs a cam I think for $300.

I'm willing to bet the diesel truck owners you spoke with were emission engine owners. Even still any of the cummins line still get great mileage unless there is a problem with it. As far as stinking fuel spots, really? If you're worried about stink you better get back to bath and body works.

To the OP:

As far as a good automatic transmission, there are a lot of options. Some are expensive and others are affordable. Look for a 47rh in a 1994 or 1995 dodge with a cummins. This is a 3 speed trans with over drive and lock up, and does not require a computer to run it. You can use toggle switches or pressure switches to shift it.
