didnt reall know what else to call the thread but whatever, i was wondering of the 73-87 1 ton which year would be the heaviest duty? (like payload capacities, axles, etc.)

They may have gotten a bit heavier towards the end of their run, but I would think most 73-87 1 tons are about the same. They can vary within the model year from about 8,800GVW to over 10,0000GVW. In most 1 tons I believe you will find the 14 bolt full floater rear end.

Interestingly my '73 3/4 ton is only rated 800lbs less than my '79 1 ton. (8200 vs 9000 GVW)

Some of the "1 ton" Cab and Chassis actually are 11,000 gvw.

Like he said it will vary depending on 4wd/2wd, cab/bed configuration, SRW/DRW, etc. Also 14 bolt FF came in later model years, earlier ones had the Dana 70 rear.

As mentioned the above factors all affect the capacity of the truck. If you're looking to Max capacity you'll have to roll with a dually.

I have a 1991 V3500 same as an 86 k3500 (same idea as the burbans/k5s)
dana 60 front 14 bolt rear factory overload springs.
its set for 9900#

EDIT its an SRW truck and came with 16's not 16.5's

I'll have to check the GVWR on my 78 K30 Dually tonight when I head out to the gym, it's pulling DD duties right now

well i was most likely goin with a crew cab dually 4x4, preferably an 80s one because i like the style of the front end and interiors, and at some point i was goin to upgrade the rear to a dana 80 with 3 inch wide leafs, probly do that after i get the money to do a diesel swap

Hello,

My '84 K30 cab-and-chassis has a GVW of 11,000 lbs. For what its worth, the cab-and-chassis frames were slightly heavier than the K30 pickup frames (either SRW or DRW pickups). Channel height was the same, but rails were approximately .030" thicker. They also have a heavy crossmember for the rear cab mounting, as opposed to the individual mounting brackets found on the pickup frames. Just something to think on...

A friend of mine just bought a 79 GMC High Sierra 35 1 ton ex firetruck and I dont know much about it other than it was GVWR at 27,500!!! We have no idea why just thought it was very odd

Something sounds off there. Sure it didn't possibly have a door plate off a C60 or something? The GCWR should not even be that high. Maybe someone messed up the door at some point and replaced it with one from a junkyard medium duty truck.

If that was true, he would have to have his CDL's to even drive the truck.

Oh yeah definitly think it is weird, so I dont think he has figured that outyet, just seems really odd thats what was listed on the title, its was nothin special just a one ton fire company air truck

My 88 2wd crew cab dually come from the factory at 10,000 pound, but I think I read that the crew cab dually 4x4 was 11,000 from the factory. Then I have a 79 k-30 single wheel that is 9200lb, which is ironicly the same as my old truck I had, an 82 3/4 4x4 with the semi-floater 14 bolt...

My rollback is made on a 1977 GMC Motor Home Chassis...GVW is 14,500

19.5 wheels and 4 wheel disc brakes..454 th400 and gets the job done..truck is 7,000lb's empty..Have been on the scales at 16,800 loaded..

frame is doubled from factory over rear axle.
