Serpentine conversion

I am considering converting my engine accessories to a serpentine system. What do I need to look out for? Will any year fit my 75 impala 350 motor? I remeber seeing somewhere that a 4.3l 6 cyl has the same brackets. Is that so? I guess I'll have to chanmge out the ps hose fittings due to metric?

Yes/ the 4.3 carry the same braket . They made a couple different one the most popular is the one from late 89 to 95 and far a s the steering hose difference just unscrew the fitting on the back of you r pump and put iit in the newer one or you can buy an adapter . This swap is high up on my list as well. Jim

I used the one from summit... A little pricey, but everything is clean and new!

I used the parts off an early 90's S-10 Blazer 4.3 and it all bolted up and fit great. Make sure you get the cooling fan too as the rotation is backwards from the non-serpentine systems. The bolt pattern is smaller to keep you from using the wrong one too.

Did you have any problems with the distance of the fan to the radiator?

Re: Serpentine conversion

Those of you that have converted to serpentine belt, what did you do with the smog pump? Or air pump?

That'd be great, thanks. I heard that they don't work as well as the factory clutch fan.

Re: Serpentine conversion

I personally haven't done it, but here are a couple I got from the FAQ thread...
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=216128
http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=254617

note that these threads are several years old and pricing may differ a little...
It seems from what I've read that a serp conversion and a electric fan setup goes hand in hand?!?!?
Hope it helps

I ended up running an electric fan but the clutch fan cleared fine. The water pump is no deeper than a standard rotation pump.

I also modified a set of extra serpentine ribbed belt pulleys to fit an older engine with standard rotation accessories & water pump. I just had to drill a new bolt pattern in the water pump pulley and it all lined up. Much better high RPM belt retention than V-belts.

im running dual 12" fans they come on at 195 and click off at 180, fans only run for 37 seconds on average while idling. not bad in my opinion?
