polyurethane body mounts
I'm sure some of you guys have checked this out before but I'm having a tough time finding a complete set of poly mounts for a 72 4X4. I have a set of rubber ones from LMC for a 68 with a wood bed but they won't work. I want to go with poly and I now have a steel SWB bed and a 72 frame. Any ideas? Thanks

It's my opinion that poly bushings are best left for the chassis and not good for body mounts. You want the cushion that OEM-type rubber mounts give.

I will agree with that!! I put Poly body mounts on my truck and it was atrocious!! It completely changed the way that thing rode. From a caddy to a farm truck!! I"m sure others will say " mine didn't change a bit or it rode better with poly" but from what I had experienced, never again on body mounts. As far as suspension and spring stuff, it was fine. If trucks were intended to have poly mounts, you would see alot of trucks from the factory have them. Especially since the cost would be far more effective! My $.02

We used to change out all my customers mounts with poly after a couple of months from buying the truck. All of them were Fords. The cabs were to bouncy. Drove everyone nuts. Never had Chevy people complain though. I would use poly for the simple fact that they crack and then hold moisture. Which I'm sure someone here will say that they don't crack and I'm nuts! Anyways just my opinion.

Which ones are you saying crack? I've had poly spring eye bushings crack to where the front end racked and caused wandering that I finally solved observing while someone steered. OEM cracks...after about 20 years. I've seen body sheet metal crack from poly body bushings. You need "more" flex in the body,not less. Especially in a 4wd that gets off road. Something has to give. In the suspension poly creates tighter more positive characteristics,which is ok since the whole purpose of suspension is to be the thing doing the moving. With body mounts,they are the thing to be doing the moving. The only place I can see poly body mounts being a benefit is on a road race track vehicle where every bit of roll eliminated is a plus. And,the surface you drive on is as close to perfect and bump-free as you'll find.

Just reread my last post and realized I left out some key words. Sorry for the confusion. I always see the rubber ones crack. Up here in New England the factory mounts only last about 7-10 years before they start cracking and sagging. The salt from the roads kills everything. Then the water sets in and it's all over. I get what your saying about flexing and all. But I still think poly is better. All my years of wheelin the rubber has never held up.
