IDI stands for Indirect Injected. Powerstrokes are DI which are direct injection. Basicaly on the 6.9 and 7.3 IDI's, the fuel from the injector is injected into a cup in the cylinder head where it mixes with intake air, and then goes into the cylinder. Where as a direct injected engine such as the powerstroke, the fuel injector is directly in the combustion chamber and shoots the fuel right in the cylinder.
