Re: stepside custom tail lights
I was thinking about some caddy lights mounted in the stake pockets. The shape seems about right but it would take some body work.

Re: stepside custom tail lights
I used the taillights off the 1955-1959 stepside truck to lose the big bug eyed taillamps. The Cobalt ones look very cool though,

Re: stepside custom tail lights
My stepper bed has the earlier style dual lights on it. My feeling was circular lights up front, circular in the back too.

Re: stepside custom tail lights
I am curious how the 60-66 chevy fleetside tail lights would look on a stepside bed they make all the parts for them and they have some options (LED,Covers, etc.)

Re: stepside custom tail lights
My fenders were cut for IH scout taillights in the 70s or 80s. Kind of Redneck, but maybe you like that? lol

Re: stepside custom tail lights
just drilled a hole behind them, they have 3 wires, the red part of the light screws to the truck then the chrome covers hide them, I'm pretty sure they use the same led, for brake, tail just get brighter. then ran the license plate frame with clear led for a back up, and they are brighter then the original

Re: stepside custom tail lights
it was a hot rod tail light kit i found in the internet about 6 years ago it uses standard 2 filament bulbs and not led's. i don't have any pics of the install but it is easy. It came with the weld in plates and studs to weld in for the light buckets. I can get some pics of the back side of the lights if you would like.

Re: stepside custom tail lights
I like those! That's kinda what I was thinking at first for mine. I actually bought a pair of 68 Challenger tails, but later decided against them.
I don't really have a write-up on the Cobalt taillights, but I can just tell you what I did. I got a pair of them and a stick of steel rod. I sat on my garage floor for about an hour bending the rod into two hoops that fit the edge of the lights just how I wanted. Then I cut them and welded the ends together., traced them into the fenders, cut the holes out roughly, then welded the hoops into the fenders. Then I ground the holes smooth. Then I made a tripod basket sort of thing for each light, and welded bolts into the insides of the fenders to retain them. Filler, primer, paint, done! I also used some sticky foam weatherstripping around the leading edge of the lights to keep them snug in the holes without scraping the paint. I haven't wired the rear of the truck yet... And I just realized the foam has come loose. Here are the lights on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/05-07-COBALT...item20b8b5c66f I bought these first, but went with the red ones instead and smoked them:

Re: stepside custom tail lights
Hey, SeanPaintsFlames, you will probably need to build a splash guard over those lights. I made some for my 74 to weatherproof them since they were originally installed in the trunk panel of the car, otherwise they would short out real fast in a rainstorm. Right now I've got some made out of plastic coffee cans to keep them dry until I get a chance to make some steel covers.
