do it but paint the center sectioin on the rim black and leave the rim polished. The flat color of the cap looks wrong on the shiny wheel. Painting the center section of the rim will break it up nicely

Polished wheels look better with the chrome caps they were intended for, and they aren't that expensive. Install what's supposed to be on there and leave it be. Drilling any holes to mount different caps, or even painting the wheels, is going to make for a very tough sale if you ever want to get rid of them.

As far as painting the wheels black, you may as well buy a set of steel wagon wheels for that and keep those for your offroad setup. Leave the aluminum polished.
