Pics of my new project!!

Attached are pics of my new project!! 67 GMC Camper Cruiser. 305 v-6 with a 4 speed (granny gear), Dana 60 rear (4.10 ratio) 3/4 ton. Minimal body work needed (from what is visible anyway). Plans call for a v-8 swap, 1/2 ton conversion to slam it on the ground, flat black exterior with red interior and then to drive the wheels off of it!!! The truck was my uncle's and was given to me when he passed away. This will be built in his memory.

Re: Pics of my new project!!

May think about shaving it at some point. Want to get it roadworthy for longer trips first. Engine/suspension changes and move the fuel tank to the rear framerails rather than behind the seat. Never liked that design!! Still trying to figure out if the 2 gas tanks in the bedsides are factory. There are toggle switches on the dash that I assume run the fuel pumps although they do not seem to work...pics posted below

Re: Pics of my new project!!

Where would the side trim have been located? Don't see any mounting holes that look like trim is missing. I know the truck was originally titled in New York. My uncle did not have it repainted and it sat behind his house for some time before I got it. I looked at the spec sheet on the inside of the glove box and it just says "custom" for paint code. I beleive this to be a factory color...Vermillion I think.

Re: Pics of my new project!!

i THINK your truck was originally once the color of the firewall. a sliverish color uually the firewall doesnt lie.. if you look in the second picture you posted you can see 2 gray dots on the driver fender the one closest to the trie is where on of the trim holes should be

Re: Pics of my new project!!

i just painted on your picture where all the trim holes should be located. the red lines are where screw holes should be located. the black dots are for clips.

Re: Pics of my new project!!

Thanks for all of the info regarding the trim. I will really have to go look closer because there are no holes in the body where the trim would have mounted and I cannot imagine someone took the time to fill them for some reason.

Re: Pics of my new project!!

I understand what you mean by the firewall color and I thought that at one point as well. However, I just went through all of the documents I pulled from the glove box and I actually found the ORIGINAL order sheet for the truck. It was ordered on 10/27/1966 in Valley Falls, NY from C.M. Bassett & Son Inc. The original color as ordered was maroon. The original owner also ordered a 10 1/2' open road camper and got a special combo price of 4300.00!!! Incredible! Have to laminate these docs to keep them preserved. I have the order sheet to the factory along with the invoice to the original owner whom my uncle got the truck from.

Re: Pics of my new project!!

NICE! VERY NICE!!

Welcome to the board from North Texas. And you are correct, that camper cruiser emblem is well sought after as well as the "custom" fender badges. That is a one year only thing for the 1967 custom GMCs.

Re: Pics of my new project!!

Ok...Can anyone lend a little advise on the easiest way to remove the upper and lower control arms? Please note I do not have any fancy tools....just typical tools and muscle. Oh and a little magic oil to loosen the rusted bolts. I have a disc brake conversion kit w/ 2 1/2" dropped spindles on the way so I want to clean up under there before I bolt the new stuff on. Also going to install 1 or 1 1/2" dropped coil springs.
