It looks cool, but that's pretty low for a static drop. Speedbumps could be a problem. Did you get the front end aligned? How does it drive? Are you running a swaybar?

Yes it is low for a static drop I guess? And far as driving it I have to be truthful I bought this truck in pieces and I have never drove it on the road just around the yard. And no I am not using a sway bar and I have not had it aligned yet but I have talked to my alignment guy and he said should line up alright but I am crossing my fingers because I know that they can be a headache to line up after being lowered. And yes I will have to be very careful driving it... speed bumps, manhole covers and the occasional squirrel!!! I have never seen a decapitated squirrel running around yet but there is a first time for everything!!!! Look out squirrels here I come! Robert

Thanks Shawn for the pictures of your truck it looks good and I like the wheel size on your truck the fleetside and the stepside's look so much different with the same size tire. I like as tall a tire as will fit. Gotta fill them wells up and I mean front to back as much as top. To me it's the look of the 60s and 70s and Stepsides were king back then before all the car guys turned to trucks. I've always liked both and to this day keep pondering doing my '67 project as a Fenderside. My original plan was one of each. The Fenderside was going to be pro-street and the Wideside more built more hiway friendly for travelin' long trips and daily driving. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. Your story is a good one. I've always understood that 3" spring drop is the limit to align right. That's 5 1/2" front drop combined with spindles. That is low for static,but you just drive it slow like it's low and you're good to go!

Thanks everybody for the great comments on the "LOOK" of the GMC! It was brought up about a sway bar? I don't really know what that is for and what it would benefit? As the name indicates I would think that it helps when in turns with the lowered suspension? Should I run one and also I think that sway bars from trucks on up in the newer ones will fit... well I think I read that hear on the board somewhere? I am a firm believer in using parts that can be obtained used as long as they are in good safe condition. Some say that is being cheap I say that is a dollar toward another truck to fix up!! A front sway bar is the cheapest suspesnion mod (that really works) for your truck.
It will drive and handle so much better.
You can find them on some 67-72 and 73-87 trucks for cheap.($50 or less)
Add a set of good polyeurethane bushings from Energy Suspension and bolt it on.
Up front,... since your truck is so low,... you can bolt the bar directly to the frame rails.

The oem set-up had a set of metal brackets riveted to the frame to lower the bar down on stock height trucks.
ECE also makes a "lowered truck" bracket, that I have used many times,... but I don't think they are neccessary.

These sway bars come in 1-1/6", 1-1/8" and the biggest 1-1/4" (usually found on 3/4 ton trucks).
Get the biggest bar you can find.
You won't regret it.

One more picture, I thought that I would stand beside the truck for reference a lot of times I see a truck and you can't tell (well I can't) how low it is. Wife said I look tall in the picture beside the truck but I am only 5' 9" hope that makes since because when I was lowering it I would show pictures of other trucks for comparison to what ours would look like to my Wife and she could not tell a lot about it so maybe this will help on visual comparison for others. Hey CC69Rat the big town of Surgoinsville is the Tri City area of East TN. I am about 45 minutes West of Bristol Motor Speedway next to Kingsport TN. we are so small our City limit sign says thanks for visiting on the back side!! HA! HA! But we have a great cruise in once a month with free hotdogs and a outside movie that is shown on a old store building wall with a great turn out and alot of trucks and hotrods we are small but we have around 30 to 40 cars a month and growing. This is one reason we are building the 69 stepper our 1929 Model A ford is a little slow out on the highway so we thought that a truck would be just the ticket. We love to go to all the local cruses you meet the nicest car and truck people there! Here are a few pictures of our cruise in with a few Chevys that was at one of our cruses. Oh by the way what is GG in May? Forgive me I am don't forget a newbie!! Robert

Truck looks great. Very similar combo I have planned for mine. Do you know what the backspacing on your wheels is? Most 8's seem to be 4" while the 10's are 4.5". What about the 7's?

OK I am going to be real dumb here! I am new to these trucks as this is my first, with a lot of help by many different people here on the board I have managed to do this project....but I don't know what you mean by backspacing of the wheels? I just went with other truck builds and pictures that I found on the board. Can someone enlighten me here on this term? Thanks Robert
