Going to buy a Miller 211, what accessories? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am going to buy a welder when I get back from Afghanistan and the Miller 211 sounds like the perfect one for me. I was just going to buy a cheap 120v but thought it would be a waste of money bc i woul eventually need/want to upgrade.
My question is what should I get with the welder?
Cart?
Extra consumables?
Is it better to buy a bottle or rent one?
What gas mix should I use?

Get a 125 cf bottle, The big rental bottles can get a little unruly on a cart. the 125 is a good size and you can buy it and last a fair amount of time. I would make your own cart. Get a good Auto Dark helmet. Jackson is a good brand, Good pair of heavy gloves and nozzle pliers. C25 (25% Carbon Dioxide 75% Argon) is a good general gas mix.

I agree with the "Build your own cart".It's the first thing I did with my new 211.It just makes sense to get the practice and you can design it customized to what you need/want.I designed mine to roll and carry the bottle with it.My mini chop saw,grinder and hood fit on the shelf under the welder.Just FYI my LWS(Loacal welding Supply) matched the best internet price I found,and since they sold me the welder they cut me a deal on bottle and gas. Like cdowns said a Fire extenguisher should be an integeral part of owning a welder,though you should already have one in your garage.

I used one in angle and just built a square cube with shelves.Then I added a narrowed section(the bottle sits on and the wheels are tucked inboard of the cube section.I know that's not a very clear explanation but it best sums it up.I would love to post a pic if I could get my camera to work.

I agree with building your own cart, google or search for welding carts its a pretty common topic, looking to get a loncoln power mig 180 DUAL, since its cheaper then the MILLER 211. But if you weld aluminum then id go with the spool gun, I think you get a deal if you buy them as a pair, but dont quote me on that. Alot of people just build a cart out of a old shopping cart. Do you have your 211 yet?
