what are those rear springs out of and how much drop did it net you?

Those are newer jeep wrangler springs. I paid ten dollars apiece for them at a shop that performs jeep lifts.
They gave me about a 4 inch drop in the back.

Just surfin'. Saw your post. You musta' used a gas ax to cut the bolts for the spring retainers. My springs came out in 4 pieces. No torch.
Angle grinder worked. Saw 1 bad thing in your pics though. Safety issue. Never use jackstands supported by cement blocks. They break easy when laid flat like that.
Use wood blocks instead for more height.
Project's looking good. If you need some better looking west coast mirrors (free) pm me.

Thanks everyone for all the good comments. My ultimate goal is to finish straightening up the body as much as I can with limited resources and laying down a mint green Rustoleum paint job with a roller. I know this paint method has a lot of detractors but I have used it twice now with results ranging from satisfactory to excellent. I painted my '65 Rambler wagon with a roller and Rustoleum antique white paint. It has been on there over two years and still shines and has depth. Taken it to plenty of shows and nobody believes i painted it that way.

I even got a two pics of it in the April '09 Hot Rod in the article about people who still have their first cars. I just prefer this method for cost, ease of masking, no overspray, very forgiving timewise, etc.



I pulled the dog-house off the truck yesterday. One fender was rusted at the bottom, the other one was buckled pretty good above the wheel and the grille was twisted a little. I have a line on a perfect dog-house off another '67 that I can get for free. For some reason the rest of the donor truck (bed/doors/frame) is completely rotted away but the front end is immaculate.

Hopefully I can get the other front end this weekend. After that I just need to buy some cab corners and rockers and it will be time to finalize the filler/sanding part of the body work. I am leaving the interior as it is except for a new seat cover.

Thanks for the tip on jack stands. There was no real weight being supported by that set however. They were just there to prevent sag as I cut the frame for the notch brackets. The front whels were still on the ground and there was a main set supporting the back end just ahead of the trailing arm crossmember. Good point all the same.

I used this stuff I found on Ebay.



I'm not sure how I like it yet. It has peeled and had a brown "bleed-through" in places. I initially put 3 coats on and have since put a fourth touch up coat on for the issues. Looks pretty good but only has about 5 miles on it. We'll see. Still way cheaper than real www tires. Takes a long time to mask the tires though. Very painstaking work with a lot of tape stretching.

Well...I hit a snag in my restification of the truck. My buddy that has the parts truck I was counting on getting is constantly out of town for work. The truck is locked up at his job's local headquarters where new regulations have recently been instated prohibiting non-employees from being on the grounds. I have been to the parts-for-sale board and practically begged members to sell me a grill and/or fenders (offered twice the asking price for parts for the trouble of shipping them) and they just stopped contacting me. All the local scrapyards want to do is sell me '71, '72 front fenders and claim they are the same part. I finally threw in the towel and slapped the original doghouse back on the truck so I could use it in the meantime. I would like to thank Geezer for his extremely gracious donation of the new West Coast mirrors to replace mine that were about to fall off. At any rate, I added the mirrors, put the doghouse on, and went to the BMV and got it registered again for the first time since '01. I drove it to work for the first time today and people were going nuts over it. I got comments all day about it. People on the street were thumbs-upping me everywhere. Nobody at work ever says anything when I drive my cream-puff '65 Rambler wagon but take a $200 dollar farm truck, cut up the suspension and paint whitewalls on the tires and everybody thinks I'm George Barris. My buddy has promised me over the weekend that he will get on the parts truck issue. It is a little late in the year temperature wise for me to even think of painting it so maybe next year. I think I am going to just rock the rat look for a while. Seems to be working.

Nice to see my old mirrors put to good use. I think they're a good match for your whitewalls. You just need a trendy moniker on the doors to go with the flames and you're done. Remember--pay it forward!!!

Since the last post I was able to get a straight grille, add the front roll pan, and spray it a uniform primer color. Unseen, I have replaced about every brake component there is except for the actual pedal. As far as I can tell, it's the only vehicle in the neighborhood that is lowered, has wide whitewalls, a child booster seat, and a window gun rack. (I realize the roll pan looks a little crappy. It was a really cheap fiberglass one that didn't even have the right arc to it. Had to be muscled in and looks kind of warped.)

how are your white walls holding up, do you recomend this paint at all or is it crap? just wanting to know as im thinking of buying some for another project/daily driver i have.

I couldn't really recommend the paint I used. It flaked off pretty bad, pretty fast. But to be fair I think maybe my tires were still too new and still gassing out or curing when I painted them the first time. I have redone it about 3 times now since. I switched to simply using Krylon Fusion flat white spray paint. I can mask off a tire in about 15 minutes now.

Did a shop logo on the doors with little art brushes and Rustoleum paint. Used an overhead projector with a transparency from a design I made on my computer as a template.

Hey man i like your truck I guess its just in the eye of the beholder but I like the rollpan.. But I'm into the smooth look..
