Re: 6 lug front disc brakes

We swapped lower arms and spindles from a 84 burb, ordered the 1 1/4" rotors from CPP ( they were like $90 for both), bolted it all up. No worries since.

We had to make ab 15 trips to the parts store to find the right combo for the steering link but it was super easy.

Re: 6 lug front disc brakes

If you look at the backside of an original drum brake wheel you will find the barrel of the wheel to be "rounded"... that is what causes the interference when installing on a disc setup.

6 lug wheels off of a mid 70's - late 80's 4x4 should clear and all aftermarket wheels will as well.

If not,... Wheel Vintiques makes a Series 62 steel wheel in many sizes that will work just fine for the 5-lug steelies.
I just don't know if they make a 6-lug wheel or not.
lolife99 Wheel Vintiques does make the 6 lug steelie and it does not rub on the brake calipers. If you buy them through Summit Racing....way cheaper than Wheel Vintiques. I went through all the same questions and I finally ended up buying a complete dropped spindles and disc brake conversion from CPP for my 60.....life time warranty on all parts - no questions asked........

Re: 6 lug front disc brakes

What wheel is that?
It's different than the style we are talking about.
It won't accept a standard 1/2- ton hubcap.
(no outside nubs).

My bad, forgot about the standard hubcap. My wheels are 12 series smoothies 15x7. I have many choices of hubcaps to mount in the inside center and beauty rings but I left them alone.

Re: 6 lug front disc brakes

I still have the complete front axle off my 79 4X4 donor - 6 lugs.
Can the calipers and rotors be used on 2 wheel drive spindles?

Edit: Found my answer:

Re: 6 lug front disc brakes

I used the info in the thread mentioned in post #2. We went the 73-87 donor truck route. I installed the disc brakes and power steering. It was some work, but not hard. Then again I like doing stuff like this with my son. I used the steering box plate offered by Captainfab. Here's what I did if you’re interested.
