I can finally post to this thread! I've since painted the grill white and am in the process of sanding the front bumper.

Re: Pics of trucks in Primer Paint

I found this after reading in these forums about a guy who mixed a little blue in primer gray.

This yellow was created by mixing flat white enamel with satin white and yellow:

I didn't laugh
I would guess it's pretty durable.
I could see if someone wanted a slightly darker tint they could add some flat black.

I like what Mark posted in another thread about painting the truck so it looks nice but you're still not afraid to use it.

I'm leaning toward mixing some Rustolium Sail Blue with some flat white to see how close I can get to the blue my truck is now.

Re: Pics of trucks in Primer Paint

I think this is ugly in grey primer. Maybe it is the wheels.. At least the engine compartment is decent.

Are those 6 lug wheels? If so, where did you get your center caps?

Those are the wheels that came on the 4x4's . The mid 70's 4x4's are 6 lug. Just get two more rear hub caps and put them on the front.

Thanks,

Can’t speak for anyone else, but when I painted my 1960 Blitz Black it received full prep short of taking the truck apart. Bare metal was hit with epoxy primer, then high fill 2K primer, blocked out and painted with as much attention as when I painted it with black lacquer 9 years earlier.

My first rattle can job didn’t receive quite as much prep. I washed it off with laundry detergent, masked it with 1 roll of tape and some newspapers, and had at it with a case of spray cans. It looked pretty darn good considering:
