split rims

Anyone know if a 71 c20 would have come with 16" split rims?

Re: split rims

Lock ring wheels were popular back then on the 3/4 ton trucks.

Now whether GM put them on a '71, I can't be sure but right about then they were getting phased out.

Re: split rims

OK thanks. Any value for them? They came off one that sat in a barn for 28a years.

Re: split rims

Possible value to the right person. Mine went to the dump.

Re: split rims

Trouble is, not many tire shops are knowledgeable or equipped to service those wheels anymore. So most people dump them, and go to a standard wheel.

Re: split rims

Mine on my 71 were 16.5.

They have no value except scrap value now in most places. They called them widow makers for a real good reason.

One chain on the west coast won't allow them in the shop and if you take one in and work on it you are automatically fired according to some sources.

When I put the aluminum rims on the 71 I hauled the split rims home and ended up giving them to an old farmer who was going to stick them on a field truck and run them until the tires rotted off.
