Cool To Tint or Not to Tint that is the Question

I've been thinking about tinting my windows on my 69 but wasn't sure what the general consensus was..or for those who have done it on their 67-72 trucks if they would post pics.

Re: To Tint or Not to Tint that is the Question

I like tinted windows in nearly everything, except these trucks. That's my opinion.

Re: To Tint or Not to Tint that is the Question

Do whatever you want...mine are tinted, kinda helps keep the truck a little cooler when its sitting. Would be nice if i had ac, but i dont so i have to drive with the windows down all the time so the tint dont help me much right now. But i dont have pictures of it.

Re: To Tint or Not to Tint that is the Question

I think if you have clear glass, not soft ray, a light tint would look good. Just no darker than 20%.

I tinted mine but like you I am on the fence. I did 15% but figured I will have them down most of the time anyways.

Re: To Tint or Not to Tint that is the Question

I agree with blacksheep - I would NOT tint soft-ray glass. Otherwise, it's a toss-up for me, but would probably lean to the no tint side regardless.

One note - make sure you know your local laws regarding tint - even of you're legal, darker tints attract cops like a bum on a baloney samich. (which is why I no longer have tinted windows, btw )

Re: To Tint or Not to Tint that is the Question

Well it may be alittle while yet..and like many of you tint on older car seems outta place but I was just thinking it may protect the interior(dash pad) and keep the interior cooler during the summer here in Memphis, especially with no AC. 20% is what is legal here in TN.

Now my door windows have scratches toward the bottom of them leading me to believe that the PO may have gotten crazy with a power sander when doing body work..so I plan on keeping my eyes peeled for some replacements.

Re: To Tint or Not to Tint that is the Question

I personally like a tint of 35% on my windows. My thought is to control the UV rays on my interior items and make that last as long as I can. To each his own.

Re: To Tint or Not to Tint that is the Question

I think older vehicles look better without tint, but it does help keep the interior cooler. All of my late model vehicles are tinted dark black...you can't even see inside the vehicle. Technically it is illegal, but in over 20 years I have never been pulled over for it.

Your a lucky guy....lol

My wife and I have probably recieved a combined 10+ tickets

We used to just rip it off ourselves and re do it after the ticket was signed off. These days its good to know real cops that hate CHP ticket writers

Re: To Tint or Not to Tint that is the Question

I think in older cars/trucks, color plays a big role in if tint looks good or not. I too am not a big fan of tinting though. Even with that said, I still think I'm going to tint my blazer top windows after it's painted black.

Re: To Tint or Not to Tint that is the Question

I like the look of tinted windows. On some styles I prefer no tint. I use my '67 as a daily driver. Tint helps big time to keep it cool..not only that, it looks cool too.. Do what you like....

Before and after...

Here is mine. Rear is 5%, and the sides are 40% (I think). It's survival in the desert.
