What a clean truck! So...was it repainted or just polishing the factory paint that I see at the back of the cab being a different shade of blue...

I like shortbeds and I like longbeds. I agree that the same truck in a shortbed seems to bring more...or it's more like there's more that will pay a higher price. Because there are actually guys who will pay the same high price for a longbed when we are talking primo trucks. A shortbed is worth more in so-so condition. But,I disagree that a truck with a cut and welded frame and wrong model number is worth more than a clean unmolested lwb with the same equipment. I'm not saying there aren't fools that will pay more, but no vehicle that's had the frame cut in two and welded back together is a better truck than one that's hasn't to anyone who knows how to judge value. I will buy a swb,but walk away from chop-downs. Sorry, but as long as there are real shortbeds a chopped up truck has no value and no desirability to me.

When I looked at my 1970 SWB K10, I checked the frame for welds.
The seller was asking me what I was looking for, I told him in so many words that if it was a chop down LWB I was going to walk away from the sale.

I could care less if one wants to make a SWB for the cool factor, but I do care when they are passed off as an original SWB.

Re: If you love unmolested longbeds, don't look!!!.......or

Frame swaps don't bother me at all.
I just won't pay premium price for a chopped frame, and I wouldn't even buy a chopped frame rig to begin with.

Just like in my other interest of antique firearms. There are people out there that sell an WWII M1 Garand that has been de milled (chopped up), then re welded and restored with vintage parts. Just like kryptonite, I run away...

Some people just want a short bed and really don't care, I wouldn't wimp out on a frame repair, no big deal if the deal is good enough, so even a quality shop frame shortening is not good enough you are saying, haha.

Re: If you love unmolested longbeds, don't look!!!.......or

I wasn't looking to make Rene's fun thread into a discussion on what people should do. I never said what his cuz should do. Lots have said pro/con stuff and got into shortening as a way to make a truck more valuable and that's where I disagree. First of all, doing that isn't free,so better figure that in. Us truck guys do what we do because we like trucks and what we get for them when we're done with them is what we get. It's great that these days it can be a good bit. But,we aren't investors,we are truck guys.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't have any problem with a frame swap. I do it. I would never cut down a bed. If it's a nice one, there are plenty who will buy it for good money to make their longbed nicer. I'm saying cutting down a truck doesn't make it worth (or as desirable to me) as much as an original. I wouldn't want one. Maybe there will be a day in the future where I'll have a longbed frame sitting around that I'll cut to a shortbed. That's different than doing it to a good truck. I would expect people to have reservations about buying it,just like me (no matter how good it looks). I certainly wouldn't expect anyone to pay more for it. I am sure someone would buy it for what someone would pay for it the way it was, just because there are guys who can only think "shortbed". This truck Rene's cousin has was a very nice truck the way it was and there are people all over the country who would pay good money for it. After owning it for years he decides he wants a shortbed. That's cool,it's his,he already had it a long time, and now wants a change.

What I was saying is a shortened longbed frame doesn't make it more valuable*. There are longbeds as valuable as cut down shortbeds. Let me put it this way,if you shorten a longbed into a shortbed it's not worth as much as one that's original. The value difference between long and shortbed (which only applies to shortbed-only people) isn't a huge gap with enough room for a whole other level between for cut down trucks. At least nothing significant enough to use as a reason to do it. Rene's cousin isn't doing this to increase the value,he just wants a change on a truck that's he already bought a good while back.

*Like you,said,"...if the deal is good enough"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is going to be one sweet truck when it's done. It was a sweet truck when they started.

Hey guys, all the comment's pro's and con's do not bother me, I enjoy them, the bottom line is Mark loves this truck and has no intentions what so ever of parting with it, even if there's a profit to be made, yeah he's not me who would definitely sell just about anything to make a buck. But! I am not going to show any pic's of Richie's work, because 25% of the forum members would agree with his work, another 50% would just criticize it and the last 25% well, I don't know what they will say. Once the bed is on, there will be photos galore!!!!

I've seen Gumby in person and I never would if known it started life as a longie. That's a testament for shortened long beds, I've seen quite a few running around here and would of never known had the owners not told me, they usually are very proud of their accomplishment. Long live Gumby
