SRW to DRW 14 bolt

First off, sorry for all the questions lately, but the more I know, the more I can help in the future. We all start somewhere?

My question is, can you convert a SRW k20 4x4 with a 14 bolt FF rear to a dual rear wheel truck?

The axles are the same between the 3/4 dually and 4x4, they are both 14bolt FF. I'm not sure if they are the same width. If not what is the difference, and if I wanted to do the conversion what would need to be done? Thanks!

Re: SRW to DRW 14 bolt

Hey, I went through the same thing, I havea 88 CC that was a SRW and now its DRW. Here in is the problem. From the reasaerch I did, the width and all is for the most aprt the same. However the drums are different and it take a whole lot of work to comvert them over. Even if you had the other axle, I really thought about using the adapters that convert it, but there is a 3 inch aluminum spacer that is holding what ever weight your pulling or hauling. Not something I trust. It weas a whole lot easier finding a dually rear end on CL and swapping it out. Here are pics for ya !

Re: SRW to DRW 14 bolt

drw rearends are narrower than srw rearends. I looked into converting mine to srw for looks, but it wasn't worth the effort for my gain.

Re: SRW to DRW 14 bolt

You will need to get a dana 60 for the front, I dont think that you can get DRW hubs for a dana 44 or 10 bolt. Pick up some DRW hubs and brakes from a different 14 bolt or pick up a 1 ton axle and move the spring perches to match your 3/4 ton frame. You should be able to get a good deal on the DRW parts as most people go the oposite direction and turn the duallys into SRW trucks.

Re: SRW to DRW 14 bolt

If the axles are both out of square body trucks you can just bolt the DRW axle under a SRW truck without any mods.....my dually has a SRW axle under it because it was shorter to get the semi wheels tucked under the fenders.....im running 4 semis out back so i just have the thickness of the adaptors on my studs.....if i would have run a 16 inch inner wheel and adaptor then i woulda had to install longer studs

Re: SRW to DRW 14 bolt

Are there 14bolt DRW axles?

I thought the duallys were Dana 70 axles.

Re: SRW to DRW 14 bolt

yes there are plenty of 14 bolt DRW rearends around, Dana is prob one of the most brand recognized rear ends, and they are also very strong, that being said that may be why you thought that. hey i'm far from an expert but the more i'm on here the more i learn from these guys.

Re: SRW to DRW 14 bolt

well i have drw on the truck now but i dont like the gear, so i have located a srw with the gears i want so i want to convert that srw to drw so i dont have to pull the gears out and have to mess with setting up the back lash and gear mesh pattern.

Re: SRW to DRW 14 bolt

Dually pickups use the wide Dana 70 rear axle

Dually cab and chassis use the GM 14 bolt rear axle

The rear spring perches on k10/k20 are wider apart than K30;if you want to dually a K20 you will need to change hangers or move perches

K10/K20 use corp 10 bolt or Dana 44;K30 uses Dana 60 in front;all will bolt in as an assembly

Re: SRW to DRW 14 bolt

Ya I just went thru the reverse last winter, converted a DRW to single and swapped diffs. The dually was a Dana 70 & went to a 14 bolt semi. Had to remove the dually spring hangers and swap for K 25 hangers.Lot of work, probably should have just moved perches instead, but I work cheap!!!

Never looked at a C&C... No wonder I thought they were all Dana 70s.
