OBS/NBS 5-speed interchange

Took a look at a '00 Silverado 1500 the other day. RC/LB, 4.3, 2WD, 5spd, decent shape overall. Guy said it had some sort of tranny problems; he pulled the tranny but was unable to find a replacement - now he's selling the whole truck as-is, cheap.

My question is, what's the difference between the tranny that would have been in this truck, and the ubiquitous 2WD NV3500s put behind 4.3's in the older ('90s) trucks? I could get one of those quite easily... as opposed to the ones that came in 99-07 trucks, which are scarce and expensive around here.
