Unhappy 1986 tank selector valve

My tank selector valve is leaking fuel. It has a 3" piece of poly tubbing that goes to nothing obvious that gas is coming out of no matter which tank I switch to (the tanks do switch). One tank is full and the other has 1/4 tank. Do you think I can cap it? Is this a "bypass" or "vent" or "over flow"?

Re: 1986 tank selector valve

this is how I found it. It has been my daily driver for 2 years and never poured gas out until yesterday.

Re: 1986 tank selector valve

Delco shows the same tube. What is it for? Why is mine pouring out gas?

Re: 1986 tank selector valve

Yea if its leaking fuel from the valve it needs to be changed. That tube is most likely a vent for the selector valve itself so when the valve changes from one tank to the other it wont create an air pocket.

All I know is replace it! Mine leaked fuel onto the exhaust and my truck caught fire back in June in front of my ex-wifes house. Lol. Very minor fire damage but it did ruin my carpet and some other minor parts. Got it back from the shop 2 months ago and it has been running the best its ever run in the 7 years I have owned it! Good luck

Hatzie has them in his Sig....all diagrams are there....You just have to look through them to find what you want. I tested mine using those diagrams

just Check your ground it should be near where the cab and bed meet on the frame for both tanks. that is the ground for the fuel pumps(TBI). The other wires should go directly to the sending unit. Check to see what resistance you have on the sending unit. It could be that you have a bad sending unit.

Does the truck not switch over all the time? or just fuel guage does not switch? TBI l?
