Re: Classic Truck Insurance
I wish there was an ins company that would allow you to drive to work/pleasure with the agreed value of the vehicle above the "scrap" rate and not charge you an arm and a leg.
I dont drive my truck every day but probably about 2-3 times a week. well, I want to drive it more but I dont want to get it stolen or wrecked, here in the DFW area, they should do a movie called Gone in 6 seconds.

Re: Classic Truck Insurance
I think I'm going to look for a change myself. With all of the downtime for repairs, I've probably put 300 miles on the truck in the past year. I have to keep it insured, or the state will beat me with the naughty stick.
I have Erie Insurance for my other cars and house, but the truck costs more for basic liability than my 2004 GTO - no doubt because of the lack of modern safety equipment. I just got an online quote from Grundy for $69 a year for full coverage and $6k stated value (a fair price I think). Right now, I'm paying $558/yr just for liability only. |

Re: Classic Truck Insurance
Talked to my agent today, 10K is the agreed value. Theft, fire, whatever. I get 10K as of right now until I up the value.

I'm sorry to say, it just doesn't work that way Clyde. I wish more of you guys that use your trucks for daily driving or for primary transportation would install more anti-theft devices on your trucks. It's hard to read when someone gets their truck ripped off when a simple, hidden, kill switch or a battery-disconnect would have saved the day. Sure, I have mine in a garage, but I have 3 anti-theft devices on mine. A kill-switch Battery disconnect and a second kill switch. The second switch isn't used often, so it generally stays "on". Daily drivers: ANYTHING you can do to prevent this is worth it. There's a thread on here called "your best Mod for $50 bucks". Mine was the Battery disconnect and kill switch. And heres another incentive for installing these; Let your Insurance company know you have "passive Anti-theft devices" on the truck and that can get you a discount!!!

Re: Classic Truck Insurance
I have J.C. Taylor on four of my classics, 58' Impala agreed value $50,000 for $350.00 a year, unlimited mileage, no inspection, just pictures, but they said I can't get classic insurance on the trucks if I tow or haul with them. Checked other insurance companies with the same answer, one even said it can't even have a hitch on it.

Re: Classic Truck Insurance
I checked for mine with our regular agent and it had lots of restrictions on mileage, use, and storing it. He also told me old chevy pickups are not valued high, so if something happened I would probably only get a few hundred dollars. He then said its not like a 75 corvette that is collectable, and has good resale value....I had to chuckle, and figured I best find a company that has a clue about vehicles
