Center Consoles

For those of you that went with a non OEM center console, what did you use? I have having a hard time finding something that will fit well; the high hump and shift boot limits the choices. I'd really like something that locks securely as well. What did you guys use, pics are a bonus.

I've looked into the Tuffy boxes, though haven't purchased one.

Re: Center Consoles

Tuffy makes great stuff, but I am not sure they are worth the premium they charge. I had a Tuffy box in my Jeep, and I loved it. That said, I don't know if it was worth the $70 over what my buddy paid for the same box made by Bestop.

Thinking about this, but I'll have to fab a mounting plate, and even with the plate the console will come to the very front of the 4wd shift boot.

Re: Center Consoles

Another vote for Tuffy, they are very secure, not sure even a drill could get through the locking mechanism on this thing. They are spendy though...... here is as close a shot as I can find. I chose the cup holder route, versus the stereo.

about half way down this thread you'll see a shot

Re: Center Consoles

I ended up getting this one:
Smittybilt 31715 Denim Black Security Floor... Smittybilt 31715 Denim Black Security Floor...
I like the one you bought, but that is too long for me. To the front of my 4WD shift boot is 24", so 27 is obviously too long. You positive that will work in yours?

I got mine Used on amazon for $73 shipped. I'll post pictures when I get it mounted.

I am 2wd automatic. I have lots and lots of room on my floor. I think it should fit.

Re: Center Consoles

I just got an early 90's lockable bronco console at a junk yard for $10. Drill 4 holes and bolts right up.

Re: Center Consoles

My console came today. I took some photos of it just sitting there to give you and idea of the size/fit and finish. In my 2wd automatic it fits fine. If I had a 4wd I think I would need to relocate my seat belts to make more room.

Re: Center Consoles

Interesting thread and appears to be a good place to toss my questions in.
Does anyone have installed pictures of the 69-72 console Hickey offered? Anyone have the actual measurements from which a replica could be made. The tuffy looks like a nice option but I am exploring the flat top full opening design as a radio hole is not desired.

Yes I know they have them both with and without in the 12 1/2" console. The stepped and swept back design really just does not work for what I have in mind. Remember seeing the Hickey style in years past and liking them I just cannot remember the sizing.

That is in all likelyhood how I would have to go. But I was thinking about duplicating the Hickey style and adding a secondary lock box inside. The big flat top style is more to my needs for a dog rest and a stomp spot vs an armrest.

i will be building one from scratch and covering it in leather... next to the cup holders it will have a place for his and her glocks!
