Wanted Fire Extinguisher Bracket

Looking for a Fire Extinguisher Bracket like the one in the photo. It has a cup at the bottom that should make it easy to identify.

Did you buy the extinguisher that was just on eBay?

Re: Wanted Fire Extinguisher Bracket

Yes, it doesn't look like it comes with the bracket, so now I have to find one. GM obviously didn't manufacture the extinguisher and have put out some inquiries into who did. Were you able to use those hubcaps I sent you?

Re: Wanted Fire Extinguisher Bracket

That's the best picture I can find Jon. The accessory installation manual does not list it, guess it would install wherever you wanted. It's 3 " diameter at the base and the strap would be 9" above the base. Interestingly enough I just noticed there are rounded base and flat base extinguishers with the same font. Mine has a flat base to it.
Numbers stamped into the top.
ICC-9 FM inside of diamond shape B inside of a circle 57 8-61

Couple of months ago there was a guy on ebay with the red tag he reproduced.

1964 Accessories Advertisment.

1964/65 GMC accessories manual. I know at some point they made a different bracket and changed the font similar to the square GM we knew since 66.

New font photo no cup on the bottom of the bracket.

Re: Wanted Fire Extinguisher Bracket

Hey Aerotruk notice how there are two different extinguishers. One with a longer wrap around description (the first one) and the shorter wrap around description (last smaller picture). Does anyone know which is for a 62? They both list the same part number 985592.
Thanks

Re: Wanted Fire Extinguisher Bracket

The last small photo ( 1966 ) has the same part number as the earlier fire extinguisher but a smaller label with a different GM font. The extinguisher I have was built I believe on the 8th month of 1961.

There are other GM products that the part number remained the same though the part itself changed. I have a dash fan that was nos same part number but instead of a metal cage it had a plastic one with a different crest in the center than the earlier version.

Re: Wanted Fire Extinguisher Bracket

That's right, the larger label would be correct.

This is getting even more confusing now.

The very first photo in the first post, courtesy of DocRebuild, shows an early GM font with a cup and bright strap.

The first picture in the series above, post 5, for 1964 Accessories shows a bracket with a cup on the bottom and bright strap, but I can't see if the extinguisher has a round or square bottom.

The second photo shows an extinguisher with a round bottom with no cup with a bright strap and fork at the neck.

Third photo, from the 1963 Chevrolet Custom Accessories book shows a square bottom with a forked top and bright strap.

Fourth photo, 1964 and 1965 GMC Accessory Book has a fork and a full length black strap, square bottom on the extinguisher.

Fifth photo, courtesy of DocRebuild, extinguisher has a round bottom and I guessing that's the new font in 1966, bright strap with no cup .

The very first photo in the first post, courtesy of DocRebuild, shows an early GM font with a cup and bright strap, I assume a round bottom , no fork at the neck?.

Re: Wanted Fire Extinguisher Bracket

I have collected vintage fire equipment for years. I have lots of early GENERAL Pyrene fire extinguishers all with rounded bottom and rounded brackets. A rounded bracket would not be used with a flat bottom extinguisher. I will check my collection of brackets tomorrow and see if I have a correct one for you. Jim

Re: Wanted Fire Extinguisher Bracket

1 1/8" inner fork dimension.
Looks like there might be a series of dimples on the thumb latch.

Re: Wanted Fire Extinguisher Bracket

Saw one at the local farm store 5.99 stainless strap metal bracket painted black, look about the right size. strap is toward the top but could easily be moved anywhere with pop rivet.

Re: Wanted Fire Extinguisher Bracket

GM used many suppliers for ancillary accessory production, and remember - at the time no one cared what style the bracket was, so whatever was available at the time was what was sold or produced. No show judge on the face of the planet will ever ding you on the painted / bright finish or style of your bracket, and neither will any truck enthusiasts....its not worth driving yourself crazy over

Re: Wanted Fire Extinguisher Bracket

I don't have to drive myself crazy, I'm already there.
I just like finding out as much info and detail that I can. That's why this forum is so great when we can have information from many knowledgeable people such as yourself contributing. Thank you. The worse judge of my truck is myself , though what others think of the truck is just an added bonus, good or bad.
