The painter and I messed up the black trim on the fenders (brought it too forward) My fault really, did not point it out correctly to the painter. He re-painted and re-cleared the fenders. I test mounted one yesterday to see how she lays.

The Canyon Blue looks really beautiful. The fender rear bolt holes ALL line up, so I can tell that the front Rad support is too low. Will adress that this week.
I like the color combination. She is looking good!
Can't wait to see it done.

Re: Jake 1960 GMC Build Thread

OK, Finally got the inner fenders back from the painter, cut and glued up the new weather strip will start mounting them this week. I'm glad I waited and found a OEM 60-61 P/S inner fender to match the divers side, thei was making me nuts trying to find one with the smaller spring bracket. For those of you new to the BB, 60-61's had a smaller spring bracket and the 62-66. Don't knoe why the factory changed. I have not heard any stroties of them tearing lose.

Re: Jake 1960 GMC Build Thread

It's nice you went with the period correct inner fenders. It was just recently that I discovered there were two different type. The thought is they changed somewhere around early 62.

Re: Jake 1960 GMC Build Thread

I wonder why they changed? I figure they must have been a few complaints of the mount tearing lose? They are both revited and contact welded. I discovered that there were two designs about 2 years ago from another posting on the BB. I and many others had never noticed that before. I had one correct 1960-61 inner fender and wanted to match the drivers side took me a year and a half plus $150 to find a decent one.

The new after market inner fenders I traded a 62-66 hood for are Pure-D-Trash. NOTHING lines up, the front lip is off at least 3/8" and the fender bolt holes are not lind up right either. Someone needs to go to Taiwan and show them how to make a fender.

Maybe IF you're changing every single piece of frontend sheet metal from the front clip to the firewall they will work, but not if you mix and match.

About a pint of paint on that sucker. My friend who owns a 914 porche' said if I decide not to use it he could make a carport out of it for his 914, it's so big.

Re: Jake 1960 GMC Build Thread

OK time for an update.

Over the past two weeks I'd been trying to align the P/S fender, not realizing that i had tightened all the bolts for the inner fenders and radiator support. I spoke at length to Tony at 456 Chevy and with his verbal help I was able to see where I had messed up. I loosened all the bolts, set the fender and viola everything seems to line up just perfect.

I need to adjust my driver’s side door a bit over the next day or so, waiting on a friend to stop by (need two sets of hands and eyes) once that done, I just pop on the fender and away we go. Next comes the hood which is patiently waiting and watching.

I cannot tell you how many times I've dreamed about mounting those Beautiful V-6emblems I got off eBay in new oem condition.

Re: Jake 1960 GMC Build Thread

Had a great early Fathers Day present, I was able to get both of the boys over at the same time to help with the fenders and hood.

Not a bad days work, even at 93 degrees! Still need to tweak the upper cowls and screw down the wiper transmission cover, but DAMN I finally got the front assembled!!! hood
