This may belong in Gearhead Gourmet but
since it's topical(at least for those on the east coast) for the moment,What do y'all do to dress up your milk sammiches?I know they are the staple of cold weather foods but I get bored with them sometimes and just wondered how to make them less boring. There have to be some variations that I haven't tried but I could find little info.Maybe I'm overthinking it and should just concentrate on getting the basic sammich perfect and letting the flavors of those two simple ingredients speak for themselves.
I know you're all eating them since you've bought every loaf of bread and all but the quarts of milk from the stores.

Re: This may belong in Gearhead Gourmet but
I like to add a little bit of chocolate to mine. We didn't fight the rush, so all we have is almond milk and some burger buns. Not as good as a milk sammich.
By the way, "milk sandwich" means something completely different in the "urban dictionary"

Re: This may belong in Gearhead Gourmet but
When a disaster appears to be eminent, people panic and for some reason clean the stores out of bread and milk, and for some reason only bread and milk. I don't get it either, but people must love their milk sandwiches.
Get it yet?

Re: This may belong in Gearhead Gourmet but
I dont understand grocery store runs for milk and bread to start with ,we stock up on whatever we need on a regular basis .We have enough stock on hand to last a long time if needed . I guess most folks just dont plan ahead .

Re: This may belong in Gearhead Gourmet but
I like spinach and strawberry jam on mine! MMM MMM MMM!
I don't know why people do that. You'd think they'd be looking for dry goods, can goods and prepping for a power outage. I think milk and bread are the sword and shield of a good snow fall. Its a feel good thing.

Never ate a milk sandwich, but I have eaten a jam/wish sandwich. You know, jam two pieces of bread together and wish there was something between them!

Milk sammiches make you poop...a lot! I just wonder what the lactose intolerant,no gluten,no carb anal retentive people do for entertainment when it snows.

Re: This may belong in Gearhead Gourmet but
I never heard of a milk sandwich, either. Mom used to make Bread puddin tho'. But you don't see the fools buying up all the raisins. If they did, that would explain all the tallit peppa.
Last week the bread I like was 2 for 1,so I'm still on #1. One roll of TP lasts longer than a power outage...and I have a 12 pk as well as a few in the cabinet (within reach...hah hah) of the throne. I'm embarrassed to say I had about enough milk for today's oatmeal and that was it. So,just in case there was an outage,I stopped by the store on my way TO work and got more. It's cold enough out that I knew it would keep and I wanted to be sure to beat the short sighted herd. Hey,it was just a matter of timing...and a little preparedness just because I knew later I would probably be SOL. When I lost power last week I went in to the Olde Town Restaurant for coffee and breakfast. It was as much something to do as to eat. I was sippin' coffee when the lights flickered a few times, then lights out. The cook could still fill the orders, but they turned everyone new away. It was kinda neat and my breakfast was better than ever. They were figuring the bills on paper and I was one of the last customers. My bill would have been about $8 and I just handed the gal a 20 and said "This ought to cover it" and left.
